TA just announced they are beginning service from Orlando to their San Salvador, El Salvador hub. They will fly 3x weekly on an E190 starting November 1.

Also to note are recent schedule changes at their SAL and SJO hubs designed to optimize onward connections, as noted on their site:

Firing back at B6 no doubt

When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

How so? The only B6 metal in SAL is for heavy maintenance.

Correct. B6 MCO-SJO is the sole Central American route for jetBlue at this time. There are some talks in the forum about B6 GUA-FLL, B6 JFK-GUA and B6 FLL-SJO.
I found right the decision to start TA MCO-SAL 3x weekly over TA MCO-SJO 3x weekly taking into account the daily B6 SJO-MCO.
By the way, TA LIM-MEX will also commence on November 01st.

Regards.

Yes, and similar to MCO-GRU with JJ or contrary to MCO-BOG with B6 its generally its a route the non-USA carrier can perform better, since the main traffic drivers are tourism going to Orlando and VFR. Its a bit different with MCO-SJO which carries a lot less VFR (at least non-stop) and a significant amount of tourism both from MCO and points north.

CM PTY-MCO and back 14x weekly is doing extremely well and TA would likely emulate it and supported with inbound traffic from its entire network.
LR LACSA from Costa Rica failed both in the 80s and 90s trying to consolidate SJO-MCO.

Proposed schedule:

TA 422........SAL 19:20...........MCO 23:05.........We, Fr, Su........E90
TA 423........MCO 06:00..........SAL 07:45..........Mo, Th, Sa........E90

Effective: November 01st

That allocation undoubtedly allows inbound traffic from the rest of their network through San Salvador.

Regards.

This schedule is very wierd for crew aspects... how will the crews be routed? Getting in at 11pm they could not work the 6a flight out in the am per FAA rules, are their rules different? Or is there other E190 flights by Taca in MCO?

I'm not sure about the pilots, but the flight attendants would be legal to do this. At ASA, I flew similar pairings nicknamed "Nap/ Stand-up" lines. Basically, you are on "duty" from check-in until the next morning when you arrive at base. In this case, the crew would check-in at 18:20 and fly the one leg to MCO. Get to the hotel to "nap" and then take the first flight back to base. Total duty time would not exceed 14 hours in this case.

I don't think so.
TA needs the E90 back at SAL early the next day in order to attend the rest of their scheduled routes.
It makes sense a total replace of the crew once in Orlando. For example, TA 7520 SAL-LAX arrives daily in Los Angeles at 23:45 and flying back to San Salvador at 01:40 as TA 7521 LAX-SAL. With that being said, a new crew is expected in the new flight.

Regards.
