On the ceremony in Toulouse, France for China Airlines receiving the 1st Airbus A340-300, China Airlines' executive has revealed that they're looking for another type of aircraft.

China Airlines also expressed that they're interested with the A380, which is suitable for their high-density route, such as Taipei-Tokyo.

I wouldn't be surprised that CI has serious thoughts about getting the A380-800.

The reason is simple: they need a plane big enough to handle the enormous TPE-HND, TPE-SFO and TPE-LAX traffic. It's extremely hard to get a ticket to fly CI to TPE even when using the 747-400 because there is such a massive ex-patriate Taiwanese population in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

If Tpe-SFO/LAX are the high-density routes, then home come CI provides 11-14weekly flights to SFO/LAX during the off-peak season?

There have always been rumours recently of China Airlines and EVA Airways evaluating and considering the A380 so it comes as no surprise to me.

TPE - LHR would be nice.

Hmmm, that's not nice, more then 500 lives involves in it, so I hope this will never happen, besides, CI's long haul flts r not bad at all, I heard some of my friend the US saying that Ci has a great long haul service, even better than EVA. But just the short hauls, hmmm, a bit danger I admit...

Anyways, just my opinion!

I think that the A380 would look great in the China Airlines c/s. Hope that we will se an order from them soon.

Even with all coach seat, that is 1000+ seats, TPE-LAX would still be packed, don't worry. I think CI is a safe airline now, with many expierenced foregin pilots employed.

The A380 would look good on China Airlines' livery.

It would be great to see EVA fly them on their EWR-TPE flight (if you're up that late...).

In a related story, Air China is also considering the A-380. However, they thought it would be easier to have one of their F-8s run into it, force it to land on Hainan and then take it apart and reverse engineer it.

The passengers and crew would be held for a few days for "questioning" and released after an apology from the A-380 operator for damaging their fighter.

Skippy,

The A380 will have a serious civilian pilot in command, not one of your cow-boys...the crash is therefore very doubtful  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
