I noticed on EY's web site that they have removed the seat plan for the 340-500, so I am wondering if they are planning to phase this model out?

I believe that they are removing the First Class Lounge area in favour for additional Y class seating......I either read it on this website or Etihad's.......

It does seem to be a particular fantasy of certain users on here (not including the poster above!) that all airlines should dump A345s and A346s............

Whilst they're not as good as T7s fuel wise they look brilliant and us plane fanatics need some variety!

I think you're thinking of Qatar and their A346? Haven't heard anything of this on Etihad's side, but then again that might explain why the seat plan has been removed.

Aren't they reconfiguring their A/C this summer with new first class suites as well as new seats in J and Y? Maybe that has something to do with it?

EY doesnt have a lounge on board its A 345s...QR does on its A 346s only and they did indeed remove it to install 44 more economy class seats.

Maybe that's the reason. BTW I didn't hear that EY is changing their J and Y product.... their J and Y are perfectly fine especially Business Class, but a change would be good.

It's a cultural thing.

I think this change is for the purposes of chamges in seating as you say etc - not EY phasing out their four A340-500. They also receive their final A340 600 (MSN1040) from Airbus early next month.

I do not know whether Qatar are still proposing to phase out their A340 600's next year (sell/lease to whom?) , as previously threatened by their CEO, or whether that is on hold for a another few years ??.

Maybe we need to define the meaning of "lounge?"

Yes this is the Etihad A345/A346/A332-new 3-class F lounge, located in the fore of the aircraft (in front of the F seats), there are usually galleys here.

The former Qatar A346 F lounge was located aft of the seats and featured a dining-style table. Wish they kept it, it was so distinctive.

What I don't get is how they can justify the lounge space on the A330-200... Surely as the aircraft is relatively small (compared to other wb aircraft), they would want to utilise the space for more seating?

QR should install at least one of those tables in my house, preferably in my rec-room/home theatre room.  Smile Beautiful.......actually the whole lounge would look great in my house, or anyones house really.

Look at the first pic and look at their seatmap: http://www.etihadairways.com/sites/e...popups/250x800/A330_200_3class.gif

The lounge is located right aft of the cockpit by the L1/R1 doors. You couldn't put seats there anyway. As I said usually this space is used for a small F/J galley.

Or cockpit crew rest facility. Qantas is one example.

The EY First Class Lounge was a feature of the EY-spec 3-class A332/A345/A346 aircraft delivered between 2006 & 2008:

A332: F10 J26 Y164 (A6-EYK/YL/YM/YN/YO/YP)
A345: F12 J28 Y200 (A6-EHA/HB/HC/HD)
A346: F12 J30 Y244 (A6-EHE/HF/HH)

The lounge was later dropped and replaced by a flightdeck crew rest on the following subsequent aircraft. The galley layouts were also changed enabling 8 more seats to be added:

A346: F12 J32 Y248 (A6-EHI/HJ/HK*)

*A6-EHK is the first aircraft to feature the new EY First class suites and washroom. A6-EHL will be the same and is due for delivery early September

The next 3-class aircraft will be the first of five A330-300s in December. I beleive these will also feature the new Business Class.

To answer the question of the thread, I am not aware of any plans to dispose of the A345 fleet.

These aircraft will be busy operating the JFK & ORD routes which will leave them little time to operate anything else once ORD goes daily.

Actually, that's an A340-600, but it does illustrate a point: these planes won't have very long service life, IMHO.
