Hi
I want to learn more about Leh airport in the Kashmir region of India. Some questions:
I am somewhat confused about airlines operating into that airport. Indian Airlines seems to have gone there more or less always. Then also Jet Airways. But what about Kingfisher? Is it the "main" Kingfisher or the "Red" part of the airline?
Are services to Leh subsidized by the Government (the one in Delhi or the local one of the J&K province)?
Is it true that Leh is also a major airfield for the Indian Air Force? I saw some YouTube videos with military transporters landing there.
Are there any expansion or refurbishing plans for the airport?
I understand the approach is quite demanding. Anyone know where I can find an approach chart for Leh? For some reasons there are none in the online version of the Indian AIP. Is there a reason why not (security?)?
Any other facts/anecdotes about Leh - I'm interested!

Hi Mozart,
Jet operates three weekly B737-700 services from Delhi. Indian operates three weekly A320-200 services from DEL as well (on other days of the week than Jet) and the aircraft is then used for two weekly rotations to Jammu and one to Srinagar before returning back to Delhi. Kingfisher has a daily A320-200 service operated by Kingfisher Red.
Cheers
Thomas

My guess is that since the airfield is a military airfield, they are not produced by the Airports Authorty of India, but by the IAF, and you have to obtain them from the IAF.
