Ethiopian changes to India.

Effective winter 09, ET is doing some significant changes to its India flights.

*BOM - ADD will be upgraded from a daily B757-200 to a B767-300. This is an approx increase of 70 seats per day to ADD.

*DEL - ADD as of now is a B767-300 operating 4 times a week as ADD-DEL-PEK - DEL - ADD and v.v and once a week as ADD - DEL - ADD.

This will now change to a daily 4 weekly ADD-DEL-PEK-DEL-ADD and 3 weekly ADD - DEL - ADD operated by a B757 which means ADD - DEL will be a daily flight up from 5 weekly, which in principle is an upgrade.

In conclusion, Ethiopian will increase its number of flights from 16 weekly to 18 weekly flights with an increase in capacity of 600 seats (approx) per week each direction.

Ojas,
Thanks for starting the new thread. Going forward, everyone who posts regularly on this thread should feel free to start a new thread after 200 posts(forum rule). Please link the new thread in the last post of previous one as I have been doing. However, I would like to start the 100th thread when it comes about in a year or so. Hope I have earned that honor.

I have taken on more professionally, and therefore will have very little time left to post-- but I will be reading this thread as much as I can.

I hope all of you keep posting and keep this the most(?) successful country specific thread on A.net.

I think that the 200 posts is a guideline and not a rigid number - several other threads have been in the high 300s when they were locked for the next version.

My opinion (for what it is worth) - and I realize this may be somewhat old fashioned - but I think it would be a small mark of respect to LAXDESI to accord to him the privilege of starting every new thread in this series. Maybe we informally agree that LAXDESI should continue to get first shot at starting each and every new thread in this Indian Aviation series unless he sleeps through (say) the 220th post of a thread - in which case anyone else could start one.

What do others think?

ET will actually have daily ADD-DEL-PEK service. It appears however that on the DEL-PEK-DEL sector the airline will only have rights to carry pax 4x per week.

Following changes by airlines in India:-

1) EK:-

DEL - frequencies increased from the current 25 weekly to 4 times daily i.e. double daily A 332s + 9 weekly B 773ERs + 5 weekly B 772ERs. All flights will be flown with a 3 class configuration i.e. F/J/Y.

AMD - frequencies reduced from the scheduled double daily to 10 weekly flights using a 2 class configured A 332.

(credit: behramjee)

2) LX:-

LX will increase its operations from 5 weekly to 6 weekly in December. BOM will go back to daily from Summer '10.

3) WY:-

Oman air will change its flight numbers throughout India ranging from 201-299 from winter 09. Also Oman Air has reduced flights on MCT - BLR route from daily to 4 weekly.

4) MS:-

MS will be splitting CAI-BOM-KUL and will go separately non stop to BOM and KUL. CAI - BOM to be operated with the B737-800 4 times a week. This change will take place at the onset of winter 09

KOLKATA: After trying to fob off Indian officials and investigators all of Sunday night, one of the pilots of the United Arab Emirates air force
aircraft detained at Kolkata airport since Sunday finally admitted to the plane carrying a consignment of weapons.

The C-130 Hercules among the biggest transport aircraft in the world was on its way to Xiangyang, China, from UAEAF's Western Air Command base in Abu Dhabi. Although the UAE government had the necessary clearances from Indian authorities for the flight to land in Kolkata, it had not informed that the aircraft would be carrying weapons

Not good for UAE-India relations....... but seems to be a minor incident blown out of proportion. UAE is not a rogue state........

None of the LHR, BRU - USA, HKG flights were cancelled.

The ones affected were to the Middle east, MAA - SIN/KUL. More so the B737 destinations.

That's some relief.....what about the YYZ flights?

Nonetheless. there are a lot of passengers connecting to the international flights at BOM/DEL, who start their journey on a domestic 9W flight.....those passengers would be greatly inconvenienced.....one of the reasons for choosing 9W is the ease of connecting at BOM or DEL.....

Hi All
This is my first post here in .net. I've been a silent follower for a long time and been highly impressed with the quality of posts here - particularly LAXDESI, Ojas, B'jee and others who have immensely contributed for the Indian threads.
Back to the topic, there were six flights on BLR-BOM sector that were cancelled due to the strike. I did have some friends (six) connecting to international flights on those routes and I heard some horror stories. All of them missed connecting flights (they were put on non-9W flights) - and had major problems in inter-lining their bags and transit (which isn't smooth anyhows).
Although this is the first time a strike has hit 9W, I have to agree with some above-mentioned posts - this strike does have a much larger economic impact.
Really excited to be A.net member!
