Did BA BCN T1 to LGW yesterday, they are going to have lots of problems with D zone gates where passengers go through passport control and then see the shops down below and then realise that they want to visit them and aren't allowed to go back through passport control.
Good to see no Terracotta and wood finishes.

Wow now that would make me real up set if I did not know that I had no access to the shops after clearing the check point. The last three times I was at the airport over seas I did a lot of shopping at the duty free shops past the Passport check point. And not being able to shop at that point would make some family members not very happy with me.
I miss the 60's & 70's when you felt like a guest on the plane not cattle like today

Yes I did BCN to LGW on the 9th and many people in the Business Class lounge were complaining about this. The signs saying 'Got this way' to D and E gates is directly after security so passengers natuallry follow them only to realis they have just one shop and a McDonalds to entertain them.
We'd like to welcome in particular our Executive Club members and those joining us from our Oneworld alliance partners.

Are you watching BAA [LHR T5]?
Quoting Richardw (Reply 1): they are going to have lots of problems with D zone gates where passengers go through passport control and then see the shops down below and then realise that they want to visit them and aren't allowed to go back through passport control.
MAD T4 used to have a similar issue - not sure if it is cleared up - where the only place you could get international press was before clearing passport for non-shengen flights.
NCE T1 is also the same - you can buy a newspaper after passport control, but all the good shopping is on the non-shengen side.

Smart thing to be doing the move gradually in phases, rather than trying to do it all at once. Up to now, the change has gone fairly seamless. MAD T4 had a few startup issues in the beginning that so far they have avoided in BCN. Let's hope all goes smoothly tomorrow!
