Hi CodyKDiamond,

I checked for you on united.com
Flight 145 on the 24 of of October is a 737-300 and that same flight the next day is an A320. So it must be that UA 145 SFO-LAX on the 24th of October is the final flight of the 737 aircraft. This will conclude a major chapter in United's history: 40 years of B737 operation.
If you miss it, don't worry. Continental, Southwest and US Airways still have Classic 737's, 300 Series, and they haven't announced the retirement of those yet.

I can see that UA490 YVR-DEN Oct 25 is 733. It becomes 319 from Oct 26.

Unless of course, UA ends up buying new 737s

UA81 DEN-LAX on Oct 26 is showing as a 733, departs 06:00am.

Looks one-way only, don't see it coming back so maybe going to the desert after LAX.

I think within the next 10-15 years 90% of airlines will run at least on B738.

This is meaningless. If you actually took a real good look at UA's schedules, you'd know that UA changes the equipment on flights on a day to day basis. On Wednesday, it may be a 733, Thursday a 752, and Friday an A319.

Actually 41.5 years. I think UA put the 732 into service on April 28, 1968.

Looks like it heads on to SFO as flt 544. Not sure where after that.

CO 733s will be gone by the end of the year(735s will remain), and US is slowly phasing out its 733s and 734s. AS will keep their 734s for awhile AFAIK.

The 735's will not remain, they were the first to go, I believe they only have 1 active 735. As far the 733, I do believe you are correct on the final flight with United being at the end of the year.

but does anyone know when the last 733 flight on 24OCT (or 25) is?

I'm scheduled for YYC-ORD-IAD on Tuesday October 27th.

While the YYC-ORD segment is listed as a CR-7, the ORD-IAD leg (as UA650) is listed as a 733.
I just looked at United's web site, and UA650 the *next* night (Oct 28th) is listed as an A319.

So . . . perhaps UA 650 on Tuesday Oct 27th is the last 733 flight?  Confused

Sorry . . . I am wrong.

UA flight 737 (??) the next morning -- returning IAD-ORD Oct 28th at 6:04am -- is also a 733.

And that seems to go SFO as UA541 ORD-SFO 1015am-113pm flight. (Oct 28th) Man, this kind of puzzle may never end.

I've tried every possible combination of destinations out of SFO. There is no (non-ferry) 733 out of SFO either on 10/28th or 10/29th.

So, I think you've indeed indentified the *final* 733 flight.  tombstone

You are correct. It was the Sunday that year that the Daylight Savings Time schedule change occurred. I drove out to MLI to see the first one come in at about 100p. It replaced a 200pm DC-6 departure to ORD. Prior to the inaugeration of jet service at MLI, (727's did not serve MLI until later), United had a large scale model of the 737-222, one side of it being clear plastic to show the interior.

Welcome to A.net, Ben.

A good number of the 735s got beaten to death in "Shuttle by United" service up and down the Pacific coast. Eventually, a few were reupholstered and refurbished inside and a couple even got new exterior paint for short hop service around the US.

There was also a 735 that went to Canada regularly on the DEN-YYC-DEN run.

I'm seeing several daily 733 flights on ORD-YYZ v.v. through Sat Oct 24th.

The last flight I see on this route is YYZ-ORD arriving at ORD at 804pm on Sat Oct 24th.

United's Last B737 to Fly Final Hurrah on October 28

United's last Boeing 737 -- the beloved "guppy" that served our airline and millions of customers well for more than 41 years -- will retire from revenue service at the end of October, in line with the fleet retirement plans announced in the fall of 2008.

The B737-322 has been specifically numbered "UA737" for its final journey on October 28. The flight will depart Washington Dulles at approximately 6 a.m. with stops in Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles, then on to San Francisco for the decommissioning work at the maintenance base before being transported to Victorville, Calif., for storage.

Given that literally thousands of United's employees have touched these aircraft over the years, both above and below the wing, plans are being made for teams at each of the hubs to commemorate the event during the respective ground service times.

Many of our customers, particularly those who are aviation enthusiasts and engage in the numerous online communities, are expected to fly on one or more of the segments, and special announcements and other activities are being planned for on board.

While recognizing that the B737 is part of United's long heritage, the completion of the fleet retirement is an important step forward.

Life is what happens to you while you making plans to live it!

Yes, this was reported in USAToday this morning (9/18/09).

Yet it's amazing how a few A.net members doped out the exact same information up in replies #14 and #15.
