Is Lviv Airlines still active? I can't speak or read any Russian, so their website does not provide any help for me. Is there any timetable or route map?
Thanks in advance.

All I know is that they were the official carrier of the Ukrainian team at the summer Universiade in Belgrade in July...
They flew them in on a YAK-42. Nice change.

They do sometimes operate into DME on behalf of Windrose. I saw UR-42403 there on August 21st with Lviv Airlines titles.
Many years ago (mid-1990s) there was a summer series of flights operated into MAN once a week from Lviv with Yak42s. The three aircraft that operated them (UR42527/40/44) all passed to Lviv Airlines on the break up of Air Ukraine. I think they have seven Yak42s altogether.
I have been to Lviv (in 1990) and recommend it, very historic and interesting city.

Lviv Airlines is still in business? I thought they were defunct, or at least not running scheduled ops anymore. A little later I will dig up and translate an article about their fate. Some great people work there (I got a full tour of their operations a few years back) but there was a lot of corruption in the privatization process

Quoting UN_B732 (Reply 7): but there was a lot of corruption in the privatization process
Exactly. Only is was not privatize, but stays as a state owned enterprize. Overprotectionism killed what could have been an airline with a great O&D base. 5 years ago the airline and the airport were split to avoid bad management, but it only multiplied the problem by two.
5V does not fly regular scheduled service anymore. They have regular charters to Athens, Greece and Baku, Azerbaijan on a weekly/biweekly basis. They also do holiday charters to Turkey, possibly, Egypt. There are also charters to Naples, Italy from Chernivtsi (CVC) that they perform. Some footlall charters occasionally as well. Other airlines (usually Aerosvit or DonbassAero, as well as WindRose) use their only plane as spare bird.
Lviv Airlines operates one Yak-42, which was renovated in 2007 or 2008. There are also a few jets and turboprops parked at the airfiels that will face their fate as spares in the best case.
It is hard to believe that such business can be sustainable.
Lviv is a secondary base for PS, which flies MAD, FRA, NAP, VIE, KBP, and some holiday destinations from Lviv. VV also has a couple flights a day (KBP, TLV, holiday charters). Otherwise Lviv is a Star Alliance destination (LH, LO, OS, TK).
Airport mismanagement is a biggest problem in Lviv and a threat for Euro-2012. It was a pity to see how WizzAir has decreased their operations from 20 ro 2 weekly frequencies, dropping LTN, KBP, SIP, and leaving only DTM as the only destination.

Quoting MH017 (Reply 10): The airport-terminal is one of the most picturesque ones I've seen sofar: even inside, you can admire beautful murals !!!
Typical Soviet style
Interesting. I'm currently in the planning phase of a trip to Ukraine in May 2010 (I start early, I know ) with Lviv being a given. I plan to enter Ukraine in Lviv flying from DTM with Wizzair (assuming they still fly the route...). After Lviv I plan to fly to KBP and I have found a couple of flights easily bookable from abroad on PS or Aerosvit.
I would be very interested in having an overview of all domestic operations in Lviv and was planning to start a thread in non-av with many general questions about Ukraine, but this thread gives me the opportunity to inquire about the specific situation at Lviv. In particular, are there domestic routes from there other than KBP ?
I hope I don't hijack this thread too much Feel free to PM me if you have good information about domestic ops in Ukraine.

Domestically LWO connects regularly all-year-round only to KBP with 20 flights per week. There used to be seasonal SIP. It looks like next year Z6 may start DNK. HRK may make sense as well, but the airport there doesn't have an airline based neither. Also next year there might be flights to IEV, Kyiv's city airport, which has just opened after runway extention.
The airport may be shut down for a few months as there will be construction underway (runway extention) to allow takeoffs for fully loaded widebodies. So, some companies seem to wait until then.
Internationally LWO is served by LH (MUC), LO (WAW), OS (VIE), TK (IST), UT (VKO), W6 (DTM), PS (KBP, MAD, NAP, FCO, FRA, seasonal BCN, LIS), VV (KBP, TLV), 7W - Windrose (DME), 5V - Lviv Airlines (ATH, GYD). OK used to fly to Lviv from PRG till the end of 90s, and 6U used to do ORD and JFK early last decade. PS is currently the carrier with the biggest traffic to/from Lviv, performing on average 4 flights per day to various destinations with 734 and 735.
Most of the traffic is classic 737 (TK flies NG), and smaller planes (ATRs, CRJs, Embriers, Saabs, Dash etc). Occasionally there's Yak-42, Antonov-24 or chartered VIP Yak-40. If some high ranked gov't officials come, they may bring in Tu-134 or Il-62. No more Tu-154. I saw An-124 once. I was surprised it came as the runway can take only 150 t on landing.
