Ship 3744 has been repainted for over 18 months. Not sure how this is relevant?

I think the point was that 3744 has been the only 738 in the new colors for 18 months. I think 2 more have recently been painted. So it looks like the 738 fleet is finally starting to get painted.

The guy was just making an observation, that after almost a year, they're finally starting to re-paint 738s.

No need to jump down his throat...

You're a class act, bud. I was looking for the "toss-a-bucket-of-cold-water-on-this-thread" button after reading this post, but it looks like that feature only exists on your account.

Geez guys, I was merely asking if there was something special about this repaint. He didn't bring up that this was the first repaint in 18 months - so how are we supposed to know that was his point?

This really is nothing to get in a scuffle over...how bout we forget it and let this thread continue?  Smile

I've too been wondering why DL has taken so long to paint the 737-800s, and even more curious am I to see whether the DC-9-30s will be painted (I'm not certain that it's likely they ever will, sad as it is to me), but then again it took a long time for the A330-200s to get painted, maybe there is still hope?

Actually, from what I have heard, DL will be phasing out the DC-9-30s and DC-9-40s, along with the 5500-series 752s. DL has also said that they will eventually phase out the 744s, although not in the short term.

I agree - I was wondering what was special about it myself...the only throat jumping down I see on this thread is the ganging up on Pilotboi...

I must say that the new DL colors have grown on me. They're clean and represent a nice branding that I think will suit them for their new global image. Not quite the Pan Am "Plumb" but it has a nice sense of flight to it with clean lines that are easy to identify.

Another 738 in new paint is about to come out of the hanger....probably tonight. They usually paint when due or in for other maintenance but it seems to be hit or miss especially if they get a contract aircraft in, throws the whole schedule out of wack.

Speaking of new DL paint, but in NW planes. Are the A332 getting done quickly now? I have seen 2 in SFO in the past 2 days including today when they swapped and inbound NRT (old livery) with a new livery back to NRT.

I know there was a thread of the first one going in a week or 2 ago, but seems like they have at least 2 now.

Considering a good amount of 757s were in the former song and ron allen scheme, it was wise for DL repaint these birds first. Many of the 738s are between 7-11 years old so its not like the paint itself was all that old to begin with...

If you have seen a lot of these 738s they need a new coat of paint. None that I have seen are peeling, but some are looking really worn.

Not really true. The paint line has very little to do with any other mtc. It is easier to schedual that way. The paint line can just keep rolling if there is a back up in the PSV or mod lines. They tend to paint a bunch of one type at a time though.
