I don't know about dates but I heard that another 737 is due in just a few weeks... and with that capacity increase maybe the international routes would start.

I gladly accept donations to pay for flight hours! This thing draws man...

I heard from an Aires crew that they were planning to start the route by November. However the Aerocivil authorized the frequencies but the thing is that the DOT hasn't.

in my personal opinion i don't think we will see Aires landing in the US by these year, and we all know that DOT requests ALLOT of things in order for a foreign airline to start US flights. and if i am not mistaken i remember that P5 requested BOG-MCO some time ago and the DOT denied the permission. i think it will take some more time until Aires will be fully certified and approved to fly to the US, and i hope they do it fast because they are doing an EXCELLENT JOB!!!

Regards.

They cant advertise or sell tickets, since they havent been approved yet by DOT dept.

Its a long way and its not going to be easy.

Not possible. They still need DOT authorization.

Aires won't be at FLL for a while.

Ideally, they should avoid FLL and go for MIA, because Spirit has trashed the yields.

Nothing is mentioned on their website, to at least begin promoting a new future service to the U.S.

Unless there is high demand for viable service to/from Cali, as Spirit doesn't offer Cali.

Aires is planning to begin flights in November, DOT has already been in Colombia on board their flights and according to what I understand things are going according to plan. Shall wait and see.

That is correct.
The information I got was from the Operations Control Department at CLO's airport, where airlines are required to submit new services / frecuencies with 3 months in advanced.
If everything goes well with DOT, Aires should start marketing its new service in October.

Well, I've flown with them only on a shrto BOG-CLO-BOG, on boiard their 737s. For such a short flight, a free non-alcohol drink and a pastry was given, even my 3 year old daughter got a special kids cookie....a nice touch if you ask me. Cabin layout was Y only and drop down LCDs showed air map the whole flight.

On time performance with my flights was pretty much their bad side. Aircraft looked clean and nice, and their whole staff/fa/pilots were very nice and friendly with everyone. But although is not an LCC per se (no fee for checked bags, free drinks, food), their prices was well below AV.

That is a club I wouldn't want to belong too, every airline charging less then AV is flying to where ? no where. Aerotal, AeroCondor, Aces have all gone to that retired airline club in teh sky.

But JAAH was talking about a short haul flight. Wait till they start long haul to the U.S. then we'll see. They also offer a free bus shuttle to/from the airport, at least in Medellin, EOH.

Seems they have a good expansion plan in the works. (any expansion is good!) They are hiring Pilots, fa's, etc. (per website) and have something like four more 737's and a 738 on order (just looking at wikipedia).

I always take a look to their prices before buying a domestic ticket (on my personal trips). On intl sectors, I might hesitate a bit before trying them....there's something that makes me stick to AV for now, but certainly, will try them.....anyway, commpetition is always welcomed by us pax.

Anyway, if they get their hands on 9 737-700s that would make quite a nice fleet of Boeings. What would that lonely 738 will do anyway?? Doesn't make much sense.

I could not say anything official, but I have travelled between BOG and CLO extensively the last few months on Avianca, Aires and Aerorepublica and I can say that with the exception of hell week, when the runway problems took place, on time performance has been exceptional for all airlines and prices have been very similar low also for all. Aires does have the friendliest crew and the most consistent in good service and procedures, Avianca is friendly but service is not as consistent and Aerorepublica is quite consistent in good service but definitelly very unfriendly crews.

If they're gone it's not because they "charged less than Avianca".
Air travel in Colombia is very expensive, it was about time for a breath of fresh air for us users.

As for me, I've tried recently AeroRepública, Aires and Avianca on domestic trips and honestly couldn't find a marked difference. The PTV in the Avianca new Airbus fleet is nice but in those short domestic trips you can't really use it more than 20 minutes, and I am a window looking guy. For longer sectors it might be different, but I wouldn't mind going to FLL or MIA with Aires as I tried them if the price is right.

4C didn't includes CLO in their petition. Just BOG, CTG and BAQ are mentioned. Destination requested were JFK and FLL.

Here is the Docket # OST-2008-0390

and here is the approval as a foreign Carrier:

But Aires can still fly CLO-BAQ-FLL?...that route would make a lot of sense....and a winner for sure.

DL trying to change their JFK BOG, and Aires trying to add a flight from BOG?

If it was difficult for DL to make this flight work, would be almost impossible for Aires.
