I spoke with a very reliable 744 captain at Corsair , see what he told me.

Corsair was on the verge to sign for the sale of 2 744s to Transaero , but at the last minute the Russian airline didn't sign as having sign for 6 744s with Japan Al.

Corsair want to sell 2 744s , as they have plan to get 2 777Ws , ex Jet Aw , probably 2 being leased to Gulfair.

Do not know what is the plan for Corsair now , since the deal with Transaero has been cancelled.

Question : Can somebody confirm , JAL will sell 6 744s to Transaero ?

Very interesting - does this mean that Transaero is growing faster than expected?

I don't know about the deal between Transaero and JL

But what I find peculiar is Corsair wants to sells their not so long ago acquired ex UA 744 and replace them by 77W: I mean in corsair sardine can configuration the 744 has 550 pax
In the 77W, sardine config would mean 100 pax less compared to the 744...in a way not so suprising considering there's a huge drop in pax number to French West Indies (aside from summer and xmas)

Otherwise, good that Transaero saves some 744 from the desert!  Smile

Actually, Corsair 744s are equipped with 582 seats in a 2-class configuration, which is very impressive.

Maybe the fuel savings from operating a 77W instead of a 747 compensate the loss of those 100+ seats?

The 777Ws will suit perfectly for routes actually operated by 744 which are not full.
Also the 777W is more economical to exploit .
The reason why SS will beginn selling their 744 fleet , is , they prefer to sell them before heavy maintenance (D check).
I know actually they are studiing some options
-2 777Ws + 4 744s + 2 A330s , then in the years to come 777Ws + 772ERs and no more A330s.

They also have a look on the 787 , and even A380.All will depend of the money they will get from TUI , their parent company.

Probably true. JL will reduce the B744 fleet significantly in due time.
A few B744 routes will be terminated (NRT-FCO / NRT-MXP / NRT-MEX etc.) as well quite some reduction from KIX. The B744 fleet is too big, and currently a lot of B744 are idle for most of the time in HND or NRT. A few are used for JL's seasonal charter flights to Europe, Canada and Australia, as well operating for the airforce.

Transaero and JL have a good relationship so far. Quite a few B742/B743 frames were transferred in the past from JL to the Russian airline.

Jeezus...I wanted to believe it was "around" 550 pax...but 582

Nice info. In a way a 77W and 772ER fleet makes sense instead of a patchwork

And 10-abreast in Y class on a 744 is still much better than 10-abreast on a 777.
