I heard that on October 30th 2009 there will be a ceremony in Hamburg Finkenwerder. Some VIPs including President Sarkozy will travel to Hamburg to take over Air France’s first A380 and to fly it back to France.

Does anybody know more?

Just looked at the pic. It looks fantastic.

I wonder was there any need for that red flash next to the AIRFRANCE title on the side? Seems like an unnecessary waste of paint.

SQ appears to be the only A380 operator currently that has cheatlines form part of its livery. I think the A380 looks best in full Euro-white color scheme (QF, AF, LH, EK).

I feel honoured and lucky to be part of the first ever passengers to fly on board the A380.
Singapore Girl You Are a Great Way to Fly.  cheerful

My opinion is the A380 looks better in the Singapore Airlines livery wearing the golden bird. For me they will always be the best looking 380s of all aside from the Airbus prototype F-WWOW which I like a lot as I first saw it flying in Toulouse April 27, 2005 and visited her often inside and out but she is not to be counted as she is the prototype and therefore unique.

There is something about the balance in the other liveries design that does not suit my taste but as they say there has got to be something for every taste.

I wish the first Air France 380 and all the other ones to come in the fleet a successful career.

Will they show him arriving in his pathetic A319BJ and going back in the whale jet?
Damn, it might give him an idea of ordering an A380BJ for himself in the next months, like president Giscard d' Estaing in the old days was flying Concorde

Otherwise I find the livery pretty cool, though not fond of Eurowhite in general, I find that red slash changes everything  Wink

The word is that all the VIPs will arrive in HAM and not in XFW. I find that quit strange but there must be a reason for this.

That's good news. It's been a tough year for Air France, and I'm impatient to see an AF A380 at CDG. The more I see the A380, the more I like it.

No, because he will be arriving in an Antonov 225. Size matters for Sarkozy.

You and me are in big trouble: thank god this site in sheltered in the US nowadays, otherwise he would issue an EU arrest warrant after writing down our IPs

But it's true he can't pilot: he has, for a fact, sort of male high-heels: they would mess with the pedals

Male high heels like the Kings of France? I saw that he is using a specially made foot stool when he delivers speeches so he can get to the same height as the other guest speakers.

He will be in First Class with the Missus not on the filght deck.
They will probably block the whole F cabin for him and his people.

I doubt Air France would ever leave him in command of their first A380.

Why is the delivery ceremony not being held in TLS? I would have thought it was better PR for Air France to receive a French assembled aircraft in France. Singapore takes delivery of some if not all of theirs from TLS so why not AF?

Aside from the PR, I believed the deal was to deliver the A380 in Hamburg for customers from Asia, Middle East and Australia, the others to be delivered in TLS
Maybe this decision has been shelved

I think you have got it wrong. Europe and Middle east from XFW and Asia and Australia from TLS. So SQ and QF from TLS. EK and AF (and LH) from XFW.

Edit: replace A6 (rego) with EK (IATA code)

I'm sure I read somewhere it has to do with runway length necessary for the delivery flight. A flight to SIN would need alot more runway then a flight to CDG.

I don't think the runway lenght is the criteria. The runway in Hamburg Finkenwerder has been extended for the A380F and has now a length of 3,273 m in comparison to 3,000 and 3,500 m in TLS. It was a huge scandal with a lot of protests. Finally the courts gave their OK and when the runway extension was completed they cancelled / postponed the A380F.

I think the splitting has no technical reason. And if I may add my personal opinion, it's a waste of money considering the current rate of deliveries (12 in 2008, 14 in 2009). Do you really need two delivery centers two deliver one A380 per month?

It's exciting to see it finally end up at more airlines. With the LH announcement of their routes and taking delivery of five next summer, SQ taking their tenth bird, and AF getting theirs next month, news is picking up in A380 land.

Don't say that! It's taken best part of 30 years for Air France to revamp and modernise their logo... Big grin Looks MUCH better now, and if that Red flash is a waste of paint, what about BA? I reckon they look much better now.

Can't wait for late october and this pretty bird. I think it's a good thing for AF, after a long and difficult year so far.

Has AF already published their cabinlayout?
On seatguru.com they have already a cabin plan, including comments on good/bad seats.
AF doesn't show a plan on their website.

The AF A380 seating is :

MAIN DECK : FIRST CLASS (9 P) + ECONOMY (343 Y 3x4x3)
UPPER DECK : BUSINESS CLASS (80 J 2x2x2) + ECONOMY (106 Y 2x4x2)

The new "Premium Voyageur" class will be retrofitted later on the 3 first aircraft as Airbus refused to change the Cabin plan initially decided.
Starting the 4th aircraft, they will be delivered with the new "Premium Voyageur".
