Although no official party is planned, no retro color scheme, no special flights, the airline has been in operation for 75 years. The company started shuttling passengers between Mexico City - Acapulco. The airline was once the official flag carrier of the country under government control until 1988 when it went bankrupt and shut down. The company's assets and trademark were bought by private investors and relaunched after being grounded for one month. Aeronaves de Mexico became Aerovias de Mexico and the reason why in legal terms the company is only 21 years old.

Happy B-day Aztec Eagle Man!

Long live to the Eagle Knight! The video is fantastic. The Frank Pourcell theme was indeed used in AM's marketing campaigns in the 70's and early 80's... Brought back memories!

Happy Bday AM  champagne  Shame they're being quiet about it and not throwing a big party or any special scheme unlike MX.

Speaking of MX, aren't they coming up on their 90 year anniversary? MX made celebrations for their 80th and 85th.

When the heck was this? I don't think there's ever been direct service between SFO and HMO. Unless it was some seasonal service I was unaware of. I can't find anything on AM's website (granted the site is shiat  yuck  )

Doesn't AM fly to LGW.

My favorite historial fact about of AM is they purchased Aerolinias Guest in 1961.

No. Sadly they don't. MX does with their A330-200. AM's only current destinations in Europe are MAD, CDG and BCN.

Aerovias Guest had started flying to Europe in 1948. TWA had just started flying to Europe in 1946.

Here is one of their DC-6s arriving in Madrid.

I should say that Aeronaves de Mexico was grounded between May through October of 1988. That was a full five months of non-operation!
