Woah, All This New Service To HOU? Since When?

I -know- that Wikipedia can be messed with and is not a viable source all the time but I was just checking to make sure all this new service is untrue. Wikipedia claims that AirTran is starting service from HOU to BWI, LGA, MCO, and LAX. And it also claims that JetBlue is starting BOS, MCO, IAD, and FLL. And is says that DL is going to start a daily SLC flight through Skywest Airlines. I couldn't find any press releases so I doubt that Wiki is telling the truth. Just want to make sure through a.net too!  Smile

All I see on DL, thru December is SLC-IAH service.

HOU is a WN stronghold. Seems like nobody else (AA, DL, even B6) can really do all that well from there...

I looked at the same article in Wiki and checked with Delta.com. I saw no SLC-HOU service in DL's schedules. I would think it would be in res by now.

Why would WN have anything to do with Delta's ATL-HOU flights?

Actually, the airlines flying out of HOU are doing quite well.

BWI, MCO, LAX...I'd like to see someone try it without inciting the wrath of WN at HOU.

Looks like ATL-HOU will be mixed between ASA/SKYW/Pinnacle

The airlines of HOU have been there for years! AA and DL have been there as long as I can remember and FL has been flying out of there for over 5 years, I believe. JetBlue has flown to HOU for over two years now with acceptable loads as well.

American mainline stopped flying there a few years ago, the station is now all Eagle. They dropped the AUS-HOU-LGA and HOU-LAX flights around 2002-2003. Mainline left DFW-HOU and eventually was picked up (unfortunately) by the ATRs.

I don't recall DL mainline ever serving HOU and service there started in the mid to late 80's with regional a/c.

There are still E145's flying DFW-HOU-DFW.

That is definitely not true.
737-200s, 727-200s, MD88s, and 737-800s all were scheduled into Hobby. I flew a MD88 last summer (or summer before last) on HOU-ATL. In fact HOU-ATL was almost an exclusive 738 shuttle route.

Exactly correct you are Drerx7!

In fact, it was a DL B732 that the most of a motor fell off of very soon after it departed HOU back in the 90's sometime....may have the time line incorrect but the aircraft was a DL B732.

LMAO! Yea, I was a little late to the party for those.
The 880/990/DC8/707 are all birds I hate I missed the chance to fly on. I didn't become aviation aware enough to schedule DC8s in the late 80s/early 90s.

In regards to HOU - now DL is all regional jet, B6 is 320, AE has AT7s (which is an increase in capacity from the RJs), of course AirTran is 717, and of course we have the endless stream of 737s from Southwest. Hopefully, VX will have a go at Hobby vs. IAH and I'd like to see Midwest return to HOU.

Airtran brings the 737 in from time to time.. I don't think its scheduled, but I've flown in to HOU on the 737 twice in the last month. Both times we nearly taxied past the Airtran gate.. if it wasn't for 5 ground employees/marshallers waving frantically.

A little off topic, when were the 2 Houston airports opened?

HOU opened in 1927 and IAH 1969.

HOU opened in 1927 and IAH 1969.

If that's the case, I was wrong. At one time the DL 880s were flying into HOU and then later when the operation was moved to IAH.

As MAH4546 said, all of the service is false. Someone went around toying with the wikipedia page because they added MDW-HOU to start on the same dates. If such services were to be true there would be a press release.

I think the Wiki page has now been corrected.
