CHICAGO, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines (NYSE: UAL) and bmi
british midland today jointly announced the launch of daily nonstop service
from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and the first-ever nonstop
flight from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Manchester, U.K.
From Manchester, bmi british midland serves three cities in Scotland
(Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen), and offers frequent service to London
Heathrow. The new flights, which will be operated by bmi british midland
Airbus A330-200 aircraft configured for three classes of service, begin on May
12 from Washington and June 8 from Chicago, respectively.
When bmi british midland launches the new service it will be in full
cooperation with it Star Alliance partner, United. In addition to offering
BD codeshare flights from 29 U.S cities, United will provide bmi british
midland with ground handling and line maintenance support at its Chicago
O'Hare and Washington Dulles hubs.
To commemorate the start of the new flights, United and bmi british
midland are offering special introductory economy-class fares as low as
$399.00 from Chicago or Washington to Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and
Aberdeen (specific information regarding the special fares follows).

in transatlantic air travel," said Rohan Alce, bmi british midland's vice
president-Americas. "With the introduction of these new flights from Chicago
and Washington, D.C., business travelers in the U.S. will benefit from bmi

According to Alce, bmi british midland's customers will be able to take
advantage of the airline's innovative onboard product offering. He added:
"Our business class will be a first class-style service; our enhanced economy
product will feature a separate, dedicated cabin primarily for business
travelers who want to travel in economy; and all of our customers will enjoy
the latest state-of-the-art in-seat entertainment systems."

BD706 (UA4820) will depart ORD daily at 9:20PM and arrive in Manchester at
11:00AM the following day. The return flight, BD705 (UA4821), will depart
Manchester at 3:25PM and arrive in Chicago at 5:55PM that afternoon.
BD702 (UA4854) will depart IAD six days each week (except Tuesdays) at
5:50PM and arrive in Manchester at 5:55AM the following day. The return
flight, BD701 (UA4855), will depart Manchester six days each week at 12:40PM
and arrive in Washington at 3:45PM that afternoon.

Other than your smiley face at the end, you've provided no opinion/information on your post that we don't already get from the "News" section of this site. So, what's your point or elaboration? We've got to do more on this forum other than post press releases that we already read elsewhere.

Actually, not everyone reads the News section - I do not find it very good at all. It links to several different sources, and it's just not as nice to navigate as the forums. Anything important will ALWAYS end up in the discussion forums, and hence I prefer to get my news directly here. It's not as if I had to rush out and buy shares the second some news is released....
Also, posting a news article in here will cause a discussion. That't the purpose of the forums. If we did not post articles, how would anyone discuss things? I prefer it if people post an article, and do not post childish "I want Hinterhofenhausenairways to buy 3 A380s because their livery looks cool" posts....

bmi British Midland are most definitely a superior airline, better in many respects than their arch-rivals BA. I`ve flown extensively around europe and the UK with both airlines and bmi always outstrip BA for punctuality, passenger-orientated ground and flight staff and better in flight service - even down to little things like full size mugs for coffee..... better than the tiny dollies tea-party ones most airlines use. The only drawback with bmi is that they don`t usually have the frequency of BA, but I`ll always wait an extra hour to use them. I hope their t/a services from MAN to IAD and ORD do well.
