Traffic was up 5.6% for August and 2.5% for the summer compared to last year. www.flyhia.com/news
Some Airlines that saw increases were obvious:
FL: 3 month run to ATL did well in the end after better timing, it started out slow. MCO doing well also.
DL: MD-88 and CR7's added a huge increase in capacity to ATL, and I think it shows even though it was a response to FL, the increase capacity was utilized and not overkill. Now it's back to 4x daily and no MD-88 anymore
CO: EWR service was not started yet as of last year this time, I talked to one of the agents in June and she said they are pleased with the EWR performance.
One I didn't expect was :
UA: In late June we lost the afternoon A319 to ORD, and were down to 4x daily to ORD for a month or two, can't remember when. However they did better than last year.
US: Probably more of a threat from FL than DL, US is now the second largest carrier to Harrisburg. They pretty much have the same schedule as last year, yet lost the most passengers overall.
NW: No more DC-9's and only one CR9 to DTW, MSP was gone in August. DL is changing things here I assume.
AC: 33% decrease, yet same amount of flights.
Overall MDT is down for the year, but they sure did have a good summer. FL will be starting FLL soon (which I'm on!) and AE is returning in the summer sometime. Hopefully FL will return the ATL flight also this summer.

Quoting PSU.DTW.SCE (Reply 1): A lot of mid-sized airports would love to be able to say the same for 2009.
Agree with you there, we are very fortunate, I hope the trend continues.
Quoting Silentbob (Reply 2): It's too bad that the MCO service on FL doesn't allow for connections to the new EYW or AUA service.
Yeah I noticed that also. Even when thay had ATL service you could not connect to CUN and even the soon to start services in the islands. CUN is the top International destination out of MDT. I understand FL's conservative approach, I just hope they stay, and eventually offer there entire network to the Harrisburg area. Time will tell.

Good news from MDT is always welcome. Hopefully US can gain back some ground. But I think the biggest development here is probably the new FL services. Hopefully these do well and hang around as a result.
