Both below wing groups were outsourced... Not sure who the surviving vendor is...

Thanks for the info. How about the ANC employees both above and below the wing including the cargo employees.

Northwest/Delta above, and Northwest below. Cargo will be gone but they were NW employees as well.

Has Delta moved over from the old (disgusting and dirty) North Terminal at ANC? If not, by what date will NWA and DL be unified?

According to nwa.com, the opposite is taking place. NW is scheduled to move to the North Terminal on 11/3/09. Perhaps this is just a temporary move for the winter since it would make a lot more sense to keep them co-located with Alaska. I know one concourse is currently closed due to construction, maybe there isn't room for the combined airline until that is complete.

Well, I would imagine that only the freighter operation is going and not the entire cargo operation.

Shame...last I had heard was DL was going to move to the South Terminal and move to Concourse B. B should be open by next Spring, and NW has two gates on Concourse C right now - and only needs one gate for winter operations (SLC flight lands at 1210a, out at 110a; MSP flights arrive at 228p and 808p; out at 915a and 930p, so even with towing it's not difficult). Shame to lose the easy connections to AS further upstate and the Board Room access (it's a pretty nice BR in ANC), especially as DL and AS have indicated they want to have a tighter alliance.

Correct, there will be a couple Cargo employees but the majority are getting the boot, I don't know if this qualifies as the "no frontline layoffs due to the merger" or not. I think they are being offered the chance to go to other NW/DL stations in the combined airline, but that remains to be seen.

Yes it seems silly to me, I don't get it either.

The list is endless with respect to decisions made that take steps backwards, rather than forwards in this merger. It's all about money and not what's best for the customer and employee. The gate situation in ANC is just another example.

Yes they all have been given the option to go to other stations, so I don't think that comes under category of being given the boot. ANC was also a 747 pilot base, and I don't think any of them were given the boot as you put it.

Some of them were as far as actual flying many of the FE's were over 60 or 65 and thus can no longer fly. However, I think they might have some stuff down at NATCO for them to do.
