Air Dominicana (ED) is defunct since September 21. Can anyone confirm? They intended flying from Las American Airport, Santo Domingo to JFK and MIA, beginning October 16. I've just read their Wikipedia article, which states that they were "designed" as new Dominican flag carrier. Air Europa seemingly had a stake in them. Are there any details on why they are bankrupt, now?

This article, in spanish, says that the president and biggest investor walked away from the project (for the 3rd time) but it doesn't say anything about the fate of the airline, although it is assumed it will not fly.

Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing them one day, Oh well, this opens the door to PAWA Dominicana for further expansion and hopefully with newer aircraft instead of the DC-9's they currently operate.

Seriously? Look at the other "headlines". It appears to be another "The Onion" style enter-news-tainment source.

I just received word from IATA that everything is still a go for this airline. The only thing that
was said to us travel agents is that for right now. All flight bookings have to be paid for in Cash only. As they do not have their credit card system up and running at this time.

So what happens if they do go out of business? How would passengers get their money back?
Is Air Dominicana still tied to Air Europa? If this is still the case, I'm surprised UX hasn't stepped in to help.

OB1504... If they booked there flights through a travel agent. The agent would have the supporting paper work to get the refund. It may take some time. But, they should get it. In most cases the way the rules are written. If a travel agent did the booking, we are the ones that would have to refund the money. AS ARC will not accept the money from us or we can Void the ticket all together thru ARC. So the client is protect if they pay cash for this ticket.
If they book it with the airline. In most cases they are screwed. That is why everyone should
book there travel arrangments with a travel agent. As a client you are protected.
