Hi all
Today I have found in Reservations Systems an Aeroflot flight on Oct 3rd, SVO-EZE nonstop, flight number is SU4351. And there is a return flight on Oct 10th, EZE-SVO, SU4352, nonstop as well. Aeroflot dropped flights to EZE a long time ago.
Anyone has any idea what is it about? I think an IL96 cannot fly that distance nonstop, with full payload.

The flight #s sound like the MLE flights, if I remember right they're also 4xxx?

When Aeroflot flew regularly to EZE, the flight number was SU351/352, so maybe they add a 4 before the three digit number for charters. Is the MLE flight a charter?

I doubt it , if I am not mistaken this could very nearly be the swansong for the IL96 in SU service as I was under the impression that they are being completely withdrawn before the end of this year ( can anyone confirm or refute this ?)

Are we talking of 19 hous and 15 minutes of time flight without stops? The range of the IL-96-300 is of 11000 Kms and the range of IL-96M is 10400 Kms.
As our colleague Transpac787 said, the distance is more than 13000 kilometers. Let me think... my bet is to see an intermediate stop at HAV or CCS.

Gerard

I can't confim, but I vaguely remember seeing SU IL-96s in SEA sometime during the 90s. Can anyone confirm?

HAV and CCS are on the wrong side of the Atlantic. The great circle map routing takes it over CMN and SID. In fact SID is about halfway between SVO and EZE.

Quoting Drerx7 (Reply 12): The IL96 has served LAX and SEA in the past.
I took it SFO-SEA-SVO.
Polar route. Was pretty cool.

- not long ago appropriate Russian Ministry decided to stop their production, although: 1. it was said that immediate new orders will be still fulfilled (and some orders followed); 2. the decision didn't change much anyway, as to that moment only 19 airframes were produced for 20 years or so.
But I don't remember anything about their withdrawal from service.

According to wikipedia the range for an Il 96-300 with max fuel is 13,500km. I know this isnt a great source but i can beleive that. But they would probably have to stop because 19 miles to spare isnt much and they probably want to carry something too

While we all banter about wondering about the legs of the IL-96, has anyone thought of why this flight might even be taking place? Sounds like a charter to me, why would there be a week's time difference until the return flight?

Quoting Pylon101 (Reply 15): Most probably it is going to be via Havana.
This flight used to be SVO-HAV-LIM.
On the other hand flights to Cuba are on 767-300ER.
So there is space for speculation here )
Caracas would be another great news!
Any chance to see this IL-96 in South America as a demonstration to other airlines (read as Conviasa, Aerosur,...) to sell this aircraft?
Regards,
Gerard

25 Pylon101: Actually, I don't see any reason for Aeroflot to fly to EZE. Tourist flow is weak. Business is steady but also can't create much traffic. Even Rio can
