There is a lot in the article.Since he was clearly talking "on the record" the deal with Iberia must be a "done deal" or e;se he is stupid - which I do not believe he is. Added to that he is clearly optimistic about the joint tickrting arrangements with AA. And finally taking the unions om head on.Its really make or break time.
Well i for one think the only bad thing in that list could arise from keeping costs under control, but in fairness he'll do what he can to keep the carrier profitable.
I can put it quite simply:
The staff need to accept that their contracts must change to keep the company afloat and thus their jobs secure
Costs should be cut but without losing the essence of BA. It is a full service carrier and must maintain that. I fear that the line between full service and low cost is going to be blurred in terms of BA.
BA/IB merger should go ahead, as should the anti trust immunity.
BA should be wary of the black hole that is JAL, make sure that they have minimal investment and maximum gain from the outcome.
Take on the BMI brand and use the BMI brand to mop up routes that don't require full service. Turn BD into a Low cost outfit that can operate any exBA routes that didn't justify or require the BA service. Use any spare slots from LHR to focus on what little premium traffic it can, and ultimately scale down its premium operations, in favour of more BD LCC services until the economy picks up.
I make it sound simple; of course I realise it's incredibly difficult to put things like that into practice.

Great news! Great news for oneworld and AA! Let's hope AA/BA/IB takes form; it should! Everyone else has antitrust and LHR has been opened...it's about time. DL/AF/KL dominates CDG, AMS...Star/UAL "owns" FRA, VIE, MUC, etc. There's room for all...yeah!

I hope Finnair makes a similar play for MALEV, but has that even been broached? A little cross-investment BA/IB and AY/ MA and oneworld has a fairly solid Euro-presence that's defensible from the LH and AF/KL juggernauts. There's not much left to buy in Europe that fits the legacy business model, and oneworld needs to shore up Europe.
