I just saw this on the Wiki page for WN...granted I know that Wiki can be very unreliable.

Effective February 20, 2010

* Daily nonstop service between Jacksonville, FL (JAX) and New Orleans, LA (MSY)
* Daily nonstop service between Jacksonville, FL (JAX) and San Antonio, TX (SAT)

I don't see any of these flights in the schedule yet. Any idea if they are actually going to take place?

Neither of them are showing up as nonstop bookable on southwest.com, so I'd say it is another case of innacurate wiki information.

On a side note - anyone else find WN's new website really obnoxious? I hate searching using the new site.

Interesting, if true.

I keep hoping they'll add JAX-STL, given AA's withdrawal of service.

checkmark  Wasn't MSY-JAX an XE route?

MDW-JAX is probably the biggest hole in WN's JAX route map, though they route a lot of that traffic on direct flights through BNA (and, until relatively recently, through IND as well).

From a network perspective, JAX-MCI would make fare more sense than JAX-STL; STL basically provides the same connections that BNA does.

Yes it was. It was one of XE's most successful routes (top 5, from what I remember) from a load factor perspective. It was a former WN route, as well.

Although Wiki isn't a reliable source of information I hope WN considers MSY-JAX. It served very well for XE. With some low-fares WN can pick up any Amtrak customers as well since the route was suspended post Katrina. Will be really happy to see some former WN routes that are still in high-demand back in MSY (JAX, OAK, etc..)

I know MSY would work, given the fact that it used to be a WN route with a couple dailies a day (not so sure) so that would make sense... But SAT would be interesting, i think that route has never been tried? would that route work?

How Many more flights can be flown from southwest outta JAX? im pretty sure they have 4 gates so there is plenty of room for expansion.

Good point. I have noticed that both ORF and JAX are big navy cities. Both of which have non-stop service to BNA so I have to wonder if that plays a part in that along with the thru flights?

For a lot of smaller markets in the southeast - including JAX and ORF but also places like BHM and RDU - BNA is the best connection to the southwest and west coast, as MDW is relatively out of the way and they don't have service to MCI.

I haven't researched to see if these routes are real or fictitious, but if they prove to be real - look for the JAX-SAT flight to continue on to San Diego as a 1-stop and link up with some decent connections SAT-LAS, SAT-PHX, SAT-LAX, SAT-OAK, and SAT-DEN.
