ITS Time For PIA To Replace Their Ageing Fleet

Don't you think it's time that PIA replaced their ageing fleet of aircraft. At the moment they operate;

5 Boeing 747-300
2 Boeing 747-200 combi
9 Airbus A300-B4
6 Airbus A310-300
5 Boeing 737-300

They need to look at the 747-400, B777, A34O and the next generation 737 as their replacement programme.

At the moment their A300-B4 and 747-200 combi's average out at 21 years old !

What aircraft should they consider ?

If, and I think it's time, PIA replaces there a/c I think that they should concentrate on a fleet from one manufacter, mainly because of one reason - cockpit commonality.
But I'm not sure that we will see PIA replace there fleet in the near future. Do they have they money that is needed? And do they really have to do it? They don't have so many business travelers that have high demands.

GOOFY with all due respect, sometimes you really do make goofy remarks. No doubt pakistan is not doing all that well but are you out of mind to say that it is one of the 13th poorest countries. I dont know where you read that and what criteria was used but there are alot more then 12 countries poorer then Pakistan. Please back your comments with some facts and logic. That is even more difficult to believe since i know so many Pakistanis who are mega mega rich.

As far as the topic is concerned, fleet replacement is has been way over due. Some of it has been taken care of with the B747-300 but PIA sure needs a few A340 or B777 and A320's to come in tune with the times.

Modena, poverty of a country is no longer judged by people. It is judged by debt burden. Pakistan is severely indebted, there debt is 200% more than their GNP. This makes Pakistan 13 most poor country in the world.

I don´t call the 747-300s old. They´ve flown just about 50% of their service life so far. Pretty nice aircraft for an airline that doesn´t belong to the world´s market leaders at all (and didn´t say they ever will).

We know for sure PIA can do better than lease old equipment, the 743's were just for temporary use till they came up with a plan for fleet renewal and not to be taken on for another five years, and PIA were considering buying three brand new 744s from Boeing which Philippine Airlines could not take delivery of due to the Asian financial crisis of '98 just that some sinister plan by the then politically appointed MD of the airline prevented them from acquiring the equipment which was avilable to PK at a lower than market price, PIA also had put four 744s on option with Boeing in 1990-91 but cancelled them Smile
