They might drop LGW if they can get enough slots, but LGW has it's own catchment area, ATL has a large amount of connecting opportunities available for those pax whose destination makes LGW their preferred airport for London. Several international carriers serve EWR and JFK, and the comparison between LHR and LGW and those NYC airports is very similar.

If the flight meets their expectations, I don't see why they would drop it at all. If they need the extra capacity they could always schedule a 744 on the route.
If/when they are able to procure another Heathrow slot I would expect them to add another JFK flight over Atlanta.

I'd say the two best airports for LGW service are JFK (big local market) and ATL (connections).

It seems that AF will give them slots whenever the like; AF found a slot for LHR-LAX.

I would bet DL could add more to ATL-LHR if they wanted. (and if the economy pickes up i believe ATL-LHR will go 2x daily and ATL-LGW will stay 763 all year long....just IMHO)
AF and NW dropped SEA-LHR and LAX-LHR so thats two slots right there.....AF was going to add a flight to JFK-LHR with a 777 but didn't do it, i guess because of the econ.
