KLM is substituting a 744 Combi on today's KL651/652 AMS-IAD.

Delayed arrival and subsequent departure due to late crew arrival from YYZ, operating in at 1630L and out at around 1830L.

Get some pics!

I saw it come in and they finally have a gate they can put it at...up until recently it was put on the R ramp since it was too big for the original KL gate, but since NWA moved in with DL and they stopped handling KLM they move the gate near LH and put AV in the old KLM/NWA gate .

NW/DL is still handling KLM...

They haven't parked their 744 on the R gates for some times - lately they've been on B51 or B20. B41 and B37 are held by Air France, and since the 3rd AF flight is done operating for the summer, B37 was used to park KL on yesterday and KL will be moving there in a few weeks.

AF will then be moving back down to B20 after the A380 modifications are done and the NW lounge is rebuilt for AF/KL.

I was debating between DCA and IAD yesterday and decided to hit IAD. While we were waiting for the A332 the 747 appeared and what a pleasant surprise. Flightaware was showing A332 the whole time.

Maybe thru CS but ramp is now done by swissport and has been long before the DL/NWA merger.

After watching SAS A330, Various UA, OS 330 (Star Alliance), VS 340, LH 744 & QR 777 right before landing on 1R decided to call it a day.

Wifey says she sees a heavy 4 engined blue top. I shrug it off thinking maybe it is a UA. Looked in the rear view mirror and see it is a KLM 744. Was cursing myself.

I'm pretty sure it was an OS 763 at IAD. If you saw one of their 763s with winglets, it may have looked like a 330 from a distance.

Ah! Will have to check my pics. Could've sworn it was a 330, but then as U said the winglets would have thrown me off.

cheers

Sorry - I was talking about customer service only. Swissport has been handling the ramp for ages and customer services has always been NW but will soon be AF.

Especially when the winds are heavy from the west, and they are doing the ILS to 1R circle to land on 30, the Air and Space museum tower is a great place. Other than that, the parking lot by Landmark (once they reopen 1C/19C next month) and the Dulles Jet Center parking lot or even Signature. Other than that depends on getting inside the AOA or being around the fence and not being chased away.

ANOTHER 744 INBOUND TOMORROW!

The weather will be horrible so not a great spotting day but if anyone wants to try, the usual A332 will be subbed with a 744 all pax on Thursday.

Do you know if that is official about AF handling KLM? I know an AF IAD employee and they haven't been told anything official yet...

Thanks!

Nothing official...they are starting to share management, then lounges, then who knows - maybe a month maybe a year, who knows.

You are right BN727, OS operates the wingleted 763 into IAD. They had 4 A332 (OE-LAM/N/O/P) but sold them to TAP.

It was initially schedule to be an all pax and all of the seats were opened up for sale (not that they'll fill the additional seats in 24hrs) but was changed once again in the morning to another combi.

Haha, small world - I think I saw you drive off, were you at the entrance just before the parking booths to get into the museum?

I remember thinking "he's gonna regret that!"

There was a beautiful Qatar 777-300ER (first I've ever seen up close) a couple 340s (first also, SAS and Virgin) and a Saudi Arabian 767.

This was your Star Alliance AC, 767 for sure - and probably one of the better looking planes of the day, I'm not sure why but it just jumps out at me.
http://www.athomasphoto.com/_3AT5285.jpg

Here's that Qatar 773 - mean looking AC with those massive GE90-115s when you catch first sight of it low over the tree tops in the distance!

25 Post contains links and images EstorilM : Oops, that's what I meant - sorry. Had 767 on the mind after the Star Alliance bird I guess. Here you go Eightball, if you're still interested. There
26 Eightball : I thought that he might have meant the Saudi Aramco 767, N767A. Thanks dude. As much as I love the 772, I still think of SV's 744's whenever I think
27 Aarbee : Yes it was a 767. I checked my pics closely and the winglets are more boeingy then airbusy.
28 Aarbee : That was not me . Nowhere near there. A little bit more south. Yes saw all of them but the Saudi Arabian. Yes. surely that was a 767. Got fooled!!!!
29 Aarbee : Spotted that too. For some reason did not photography that one. Though LH744 was as impressive as the missed KL R
30 L1011buff : Those are all awesome photos! thanks for sharing. i used to plane spot in the late 70s early 80s at IAD. My sister used to live just down the road fro
31 Alphaomega : Ironically they began flights in August 2007 but their last DUB flight was last Sunday Oct 11, so you won't see them again until March when they star
