'Air France-KLM thinks about delaying the delivery of airliners'
14-10-2009
PARIS - Air France-KLM is thinking about delaying the delivery of airliners from the manufacturers Boeing and Airbus. This is reported by the French Newspaper "La Tribune" on Wednesday (14 October). The airliners involved are the Airbus A380 and the cargo- and passenger-version of the Boeing 777.
The bad economic situation is blamed for this possible move. A spokesman for the airline declined to comment on this report. The first three A380's will be delivered as scheduled. The other ones could be delayed by AF-KLM.
Has anyone heard anything to confirm this?

AF has already declared they are going to defer some of their later A380 deliveries, likely in part because they are keeping some of their 744s longer then planned. They also did not take delivery of the first 777F as planned (though there is debate as to whether they "rejected" it or just deferred delivery). And with the 744s sticking around longer than planned, that likely reduces the near-term need for the 77W, as well.

Thanks, I did not know this since I have only started a thread twice. That explains the fact that it also was like this on my first post. Maybe I should have known better.
On-topic: this possible action would be too bad for all parties involved: AF-KLM, Airbus and Boeing. But the finance's at AF-KLM will drive this possible decision. How would both OEM's handle this? Are there damages to be payed or will it be part of a general understanding that such a delay is necessary for an important customer to stay out of financial troubles?

I'm a little confused. I didn't know AF is replacing their 744s with 380s? They fly the 744 in a two class configuration JY, compared to the majority of their longhaul fleet which is in three-PJY, with the exception of the 343s. I thought the 380s were going on premium, high density, high yield markets eventually after the eventual c

AF may not be now, ten years on, but did their 744s operate in a P/J/Y configuration when they placed their A380 order in July 2000?
The 77W had only just been granted Authority to Offer that March and AF did not place their initial order until November (assuming those 10 were an actual 77W order at the time and not a 77E order later converted to the 77W).

This is indeed really old news ...
AF has already delayed some B777F (only 2 were put in service in 2009 instead of the 5 planned), but also some B77W and A380 (after the third one).
So nothing really new here, at least on AF side ...

Are any 777s coming off the line that are actually being delivered? Will any airline move up to the front of the line, or is Boeing going to have to really slow things down?
