Ho ho!

Didn't see this one coming. Fares from £21.99, apparently, should be on sale later today. Two round-trips a day represents a decrease in service to/from LTN (currently as many as four round-trips during the week) but an interesting development.

Easyjet to fly from city airport

Easyjet is to move one of its routes from Belfast International Airport to the George Best Belfast City Airport.

A twice-daily service to London Luton will leave from the city airport from 7 January 2010.

A statement from Easyjet said if the move was successful they would consider "additional routes over time" from the city site.

It went on to say that the bulk of the company's operations would remain at Belfast International Airport

....

Passengers who have already booked to travel between Luton and Belfast International from 7 January onwards will be contacted and advised they can either transfer free of charge to the Belfast City route or claim a full refund.

Soon it won't just be bmi and bmiBaby check-in agents who have to tell the dimmer SLF that they're at the wrong airport...  Big grin

easyJet currently have this major spat on-going on with the operators of LTN with regards to the airport fees, which is Abertis and they also own BFS too!

So what they are doing here is a two pronged attack the the airport operator, by reducing services from LTN down from 4 to 2 rotations a day and also by ensuring they arrive at BHD instead of BFS...

Seems the cuts at LTN by easyJet as promised are taking place... Athens which has been operated by the airline from the airport for atleast the last 8-10 yrs sees this being discontinued from November.

Also LTN is the only UK base not to have their spring timetable released, while all other UK bases were released for sale 6-8 wks ago.

They are still operating BFS at a higher frequency from STN and LGW though, will be interesting to see if these flights get switched to BHD too, especially as FR fly STN - BHD.

Be interesting to see how big the cuts will be, quite severe as the cutting of the long serving Athens route has been cut I imagine. Do you think that it will leave STN as their second biggest London base now? I know STN has been down sized too in recent years but next summer they have maintained the same level of service as this year.

Does BHD have the space to take all of Easyjet's London services?

Also if Easyjet were to move all their London flights to the City would they not also want to bring the rest of their services to the city?

What aircraft do you think Easyjet will use on this route? And does BHD have the check-in facilities to accommodate all of Easyjet's Domestic routes?

Would be a A319 or a B737. Although they are getting some A320s for the new longer routes at LTN, wouldn't they be severely restricted at BHD like FR's B737-800s? Don't they have a limit on pax numbers when using BHD? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi

As far as I know Ryanair block the first 4 rows of their 737-800's when operating from BHD. BMI operate 320's and have used 321's from BHD, I don't know if they are weight restricted.

Only a handful destinations are available at the moment. A lot of shorthaul routes are still only available until March 27th, like ABZ/AMS/CDG/GLA/GVA/INV/NCE/SXF etc. for example.

From what I can tell all routes are now available to book from LTN...

I had an email from them on Thursday advising the LTN timetables for Spring and Early Summer 2010 are available to book.

One word of warning however, with the current spat between the airline and LTN, unless they sort out their differences, easyJet have promised a 20% reduction in services from next summer... Looking at the flights available there doesn't seem to be much in the way of reductions or routes being cut other than the odd tweak, so flights booked now could be cancelled by the airline at a later date and your plans changed!
