Hey! Whats Up?
In the past you guys(gals) have been very helpful for me and I would like to ask you all another question.....

This summer I am flying USAirways from ROC-PIT-IND-PIT-ROC and would like some info....

here is my schedule-->

Okay so here is the question....I have flown USAirways before on 734, D93, 762,
and I want to know how is the 733, and in particular the A320 (I am very excited, because it'll be my first time on any Airbus aircraft!) any info is appreciated! and also what is the PIT airport like and also IND?

Hi, well, the 737-300 is just about the same as the 737-400 only its shorter. It climbs a little faster and maybe seems a little lighter but there really isn't a very big noticeable difference. As for the A320, I can't help you on that one, I havn't flown on it yet.

Keep in mind those fleet schedules are not set in stone. They can change with out notice but in most cases their pretty accurate. It's happened to me many times on several different airlines.

I flew US Air last winter for the first time and overall was pleased with them. I flew on the 737-300 & 400 as well as their A320 and MD80. The A320 was gorgeous inside including a very clean almost brand new look to it. As well as the interior the flight itself was very smooth and we arrived early. To help you with your second question PIT airport is a fairly nice airport. It kind of reminded me of a shopping mall in the area I was in.

P.S. Thank god you don't have to ride on their MD80's however! They are an awful ride and terribly old and unkept.

This Rochester native is well acquainted with all three airports (tho haven't been to IND since 1993 so info is dated).

US 733s and A320's are very comfortable a/c. The seats on both are plenty wide for my 5'11.5", 190 lb frame, and seat pitch on both is good. The gray and beige interiors are tasteful, and in my experience always kept very clean.

The A320 is 7 inches wider than the 733, and the difference is notable. Seats are slightly wider, and the seatbacks are higher on the A320. The A320 seatback fits perfectly into the small of the back of my head. A320 seatbacks on US also adjoin side-to-side directly, so they offer a little more privacy.

The only disadvantage to the A320, in my view, is its smaller windows. I can still get good photo aiming, but find that aiming is a little easier through the 733's bigger windows.

PIT is one of the best connecting airports in the world, IMO. The concourses are wide and have lots of moving sidewalks. PIT is not congested, due to widely-spaced runways and traffic well below the airport's capacity. It's a very easy airport to get around in, with good signage.

IND is a standard medium-size airport, with four concourses and a two-level terminal with two-level approach road. IND has parallel widely-spaced runways so there should not be any ground delays due to traffic. At rush hour, IND's terminal is probably very crowded; traffic there is strong and there haven't been any substantial building capacity improvements since the late 1980's.

There's an excellent indoor and outdoor observation deck on top of concourse B, where concourse C splits off. Be sure to visit it if you have time. I have a pic at the site taken from this deck:

If you're from ROC you're probably familiar with our snazzy, easy-to use airport. I just wish Nick Tahou would open a stand in the airport so I could get a garbage plate before leaving town. Of course, garbage plates may have effects that are undesirable at high altitudes. :+)

I flew just recently on a US A320 on PHL-SXM. I've been on many A320's of NWA, UAL, LH, but US Airways' are definatly the best. They were extremly clean, with ample legroom(much more than all but LH). Just to kind of reiterate what was said above, those 7 inches are perhaps no more noticed than on US Airways' A320's. To many people's disbelief, US actually does put in wider seats, and the middle seat is an inch wider than the to outer seats. The eldest A320 (one of the ones I took) is just over two years old, so they are still very much "new" airplanes. I have not been on thier B737-300's, but US's excellant cabin crew should make up for any lack of luxuries that you may encounter in the B737's.

BTW, the A320's have power points for laptops in every seat on the plane.

AA M80, it's worth noticing *when* US Airways finally started flying A320's into Rochester.

In July 2000, none of the three airlines then at ROC that operated A320's (US Airways, Northwest, United) had ever scheduled them to ROC. US and UA of course fly lots of A320-size planes into Rochester. UA was flying 722's, and US was flying both 734's and M80's. US had had A320's in its fleet for two years; United had been flying them since 1994; and Northwest had had them since 1989.

But amazingly, none of those shiny, luxurious planes were serving Rochester. We're not considered a glamour destination by the "Six Families" or Big 6/ Oligopoly airlines. So we got old planes.

But then in August 2000...JetBlue arrived at ROC with shiny new A320's. And wouldn't you know it, things changed. By December, US Airways had introduced A319's and A320's. In January, United introduced both types as well.

Isn't it amazing what a little real competition will do for a put-upon medium-size market like Rochester?

That is definately true about the competition.

I am so glad that I am finally able to get to ride on an Airbus. This summer I almost got to ride on the A330 but the flight we were scheduled on was opporated by a 767-200ER, which was still awesome!

So now I know why there are no A 320/319s at ALB...no Jet Blue. But we do have Southwest and their glorious 737-700s. I guess you can't have everything!

and out.

The PIT airport is really pleasant. Easy to use. VERY
clean and very modern. It still looks brand new even
though it actually opened in October 1992.

Not seeing the Airbus aircraft from US is not due to your city size, but more to your geographical location. The A319 is flown to some smaller cites (CHS and MYR to name a few) and some larger cities do not get them (ORD for one). Right now, the Airbus us being focused into introducing longer stage length flights, which helps lower CASMs. Longer flights is really why US purchased Airbus for anyway.

New flights include increased transcon frequencies to SAN and LAX, a new BWI-SEA non-stop this summer, and new CLT-AUA weekend service this fall, turning to daily service by January.
