Currently I'm living the DFW area and had a few questions. Lately I have seen quite a few Spirit MD-80's (I believe) at Fort Worth Meacham Airport. My question is what service is done to them here if any? I have also noticed other large jets here on other days, mostly 727s. Any info on this would be appreciated.
At Alliance Airport as far as the American Airlines base there, what maintence is done there, C checks, D checks or any? Also what aircraft are maintained there? Is Federal Express's operation out of there fairly large?
I would guess one of fellow DFW resident would be able to shed some light on these subjects for me.

I have seen several Spirit planes at DFW too. As for AA, I think Alliance is mostly used for newly delivered aircraft and major overhauls. However, I think minor checks and C and D checks are performed at DFW with lots of other maintenance things. If you mean like engine replacements etc, I think most of that is done at Alliance, but the DFW hangars have the equipment to do it.

I was curious because I have been seeing a few AA 777's flying right over my house coming from that direction. I didnt know if they were coming from Alliance or from DFW. The same goes for tons of Federal Express DC-10s...

I think that American also does all of the RR Trent (I think they are Trent engines) overhauls for the the entire US.
I have a friend that is a mechanic out there and he was saying something to that affect. Also, I do think that it is a staging area for new aircraft, and pilot training. I see those AA777 and FedEx DC-10 at about 2,000 ft turning 90 decree base from my house in Keller.

Don't know about the others, but AA's Alliance Maintenance Base is for 757, 767, 777, and F100 aircraft. Tulsa remains the Maintenance Base for all other AA aircraft fleet types. Alliance is also home for RR/AA jointly owned engine overhaul/repair company (don't know the name but it is an LLC organization). There is no "base" for pilot training per se. Since virtually all pilot training is done at Flight Academy just south of DFW airport, it would make sense that what little pilot training is done in an actual aircraft is done from either DFW or AFW.

The FedEx hub at AFW includes about 20 nightly departures to LAX, PHX, MCO, FLL, IND, MEM and others using most everything except the MD-11s. There are a few daytime 727 and Airbus flights but the rest all operate overnight.
