DL 763 International To LAS: Why?

This may be old news, but in recent days DL appears to have been running some internationally-configured 763s to and from LAS. I see tonight that flight 0101 ATL-EZE is delayed waiting for the inbound aircraft to come in from LAS (on time at 7:10). Did the regularly-scheduled 763 go tech? Also, why are they running the internationals to LAS in general?

With the introduction of the 01 October schedule, many 763's are back on the ATL-LAS run for the next 6 months. My guess is, many DL international seasonal services are discontinued, freeing up a/c. With Delta slowly retiring domestic 763's, there may not be a choice of what 763's are available to use. A visit to Delta.com actually has them on the schedule, but I would not count on booking anything as Delta frequently changes a/c on this route.

Starting last week on monday or tuesday night we had 4 767er's and 1 767etops. We then ferried a 767er to las for a flight to atl. I think it was a winglet 1600 acft. I guess it will be like that for a few weeks  Smile Darren

Interesting, I just checked and DL already has delayed the same ATL-EZE flight on both Sunday or Monday by an hour, likely because of the inbound aircraft coming in on the same flight from LAS. I wonder if this really was caused by a shortage of domestic 763s, like Crownvic said?
