Why Delays At DFW?

I was just looking at the flightstats map and it indicated delays were increasing at DFW. Weather is fog, 2 miles visibility, winds out of south at 13 knots. With DFW's runways all spread out, and , parallel, what is the criteria that would lead to a delay in these conditions? Can't all the runways be used simultaneously for IFR approach? or do they only use a few runways in these conditions like SFO? Just curious.

When the wx is bad with low vis their CAT II/III runways are 18R, 17C, and 17L for arrivals in south flow in north flow they use 35L and 35C for CAT II/III ops.

Correct, plus there are several thunderstorms in the DFW Metroplex today, tonight and tomorrow.

Probably the biggest factor. They take up the space airplanes usually fly in.

I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

Not all of them as they don't meet the dual/triple independent approach criteria, however

These do allow for dual/triple operations and DFW uses them quite well most all of the time.

Most of the time, that is in VMC, not IFC. Separating aircraft in the soup is different than when they can see each other.

Besides, ILS protection standards are much stricter when the weather is worse than 800 and 2.

They can't run 100+ all the time...  Wink

Also, the weather is "training", so they'll be in it longer, and delays will be worse. Kate Hanni take note....
