Heard this yesterday on the news but finally their is an English link.

Basically Jat will finally get a B737-700 in March and lease another B737-400. They will start an airline in Macedonia, whose national airline went bust a few months ago (this has ben unofficial for a few months but they finally confirmed it). Also they are introducing commodities for Serbian passengers like free travel insurance and taxi service.

Pretty much this whole plan is being launched because A)Low cost airlines have announced their arrival in Serbia, B) They want to operate with a profit in 2010 and C) They have to slash their losses if they want to get another loan from the government in 2011.

Although you always have to be careful with Jat which often doesn’t deliver on their plans I think this time most of it will happen because next year it’s a do or die situation for Jat. Also for the first time in 9 years there is a government is Serbia which wants to see Jat become successful.

Here is the complete link to the English article: http://exyuaviation.blogspot.com/200...2010-b737-700-aeromak-and-new.html

And also I think Jat's worst nightmare is about to happen, December 1 (accoriding to Belgrade airport site) Malév is starting daily flights!

But I still don't get it, why do they need the 737-400 if they are leasing the -700 series?

Having one -700 in the fleet will cause chaos in the event of tech problems.

Reducing average fares, and at the same time increasing costs through giving free insurance and taxis into Belgrade doesnt make any sense whatsoever.

The world is really getting smaller these days

I just hope that this time it is for real.

Great! Macedonia needs an airline, and Jat should use that.
