More Lufthansa strikes:

Lufthansa pilots have voted to hit the Europe's second largest airline with weekly strikes for the next four weeks over demands for higher wages.
The first stoppage will take place from midnight Thursday (2200 GMT) until noon on Friday (1000 GMT).

The union warned it could also take unannounced "small, short-term" measures.

Lufthansa shares fell 2.5% on the news and are now down by about a quarter since hitting a year high on 2 January.

Union demands :
The pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit organized the strike vote after negotiations with Lufthansa broke down in early April.

They are seeking average pay increases of 30-35%, in line with pilots at other major international airlines and to make up for wage concessions in the early 1990s when the airline's finances were stretched.

Lufthansa said the pilots demands are too high and had offered increases of 10-16.7% plus profit sharing.

This was rejected by pilots just before the airline reported a 94% dive in first-quarter operating profits last week, which it blamed on high fuel costs and its internet activities.

"We're still ready for negotiations, but there needs to be a better offer," a union spokesman said.

The union representing 4,200 Lufthansa pilots said 96% voted in favour of the strike with more than 98% of members voting. The union needed 70% backing to proceed with the stoppages.

Negotiations with the airline's management would restart next Wednesday, the union said.

Strike outlook:
The action will initially be confined to flights departing from German airports.

International flights out of Frankfurt should depart as usual on Friday from 1100 GMT but the carrier was unable to say how badly its international timetable would be affected.

The strikes will continue each Thursday for 24 hours for the next four weeks unless an agreement is reached, Vereinigung Cockpit said.

A short one-day strike in late March, the first at Lufthansa since 1996, grounded 116 flights and delayed about 10,000 passengers at airports throughout Germany.

In my opinion, they are trying to ruin the Airline's image as well as the airline itself. They are demanding for too much. What do you guys think?

sorry to correct... but the thursday mentioned in the article was may, 4th!
and there was a strike!

i don´t think they are demanding too much! in 1989 when lufthansa was not doing good, pilots had been cut their wages!
now the company is earning big profit now, why shoulnd´t pilots participate??

good luck to all lufthanseaten!!
