Man I've heard some crazy and funny stuff but this was just to much. The dude in the Tower is great with this one. Its like an aviation sitcom. Hope you all like it.

I heard that exchange before, a few short weeks back...
It was a buzz to hear it again.

Do you think he is going to go down to close it? How is that possible?

I work at JFK and tomorrow I'm going to ask around if anyone remembers this. The plane that helped him out (Jetblue A320), I work for Jetblue and have a few pilot friends so I'm definatly going to ask if they know of this incident and see if maybe they even know the crew of the Jetblue plane.

No he had to much Weißbier Â
YES he did go down. Exited under the flight deck (shutdown both engines on the specific side) and closed the panel!

I love how you can hear the controller going through the regs in his head, trying to think of a reason why he shouldn't let a pilot exit his loaded and running jumbo jet on the taxiway.
To his credit, he didn't just find an excuse to say no. Well done, I say.

I wonder if they ever came up with a new "handle" for AW? Â Â
I knew I loved flying for one reason or another! I just wish I could find more for "Boston John!" I wonder if he really has a Facebook page or not? {Scratchchin}
David
P.S. I always thought "AW" was the IATA/ICAO code for Air Wisconsin?

literally had to run to the bathroom so i didn't pee my pants. i absolutely love the response of the controller, "...and i can let you be number one!" "will do, thanks...." and don't even get me started on, "i'd like to get out and, uh, uh, close it"
and thanks to everyone for pointing out such gems provided by those making sure all of us get where we need to go safely!

- With my limit experience with controllers on the east coast, that guy at JFK and "Boston Mike" (at BOS) seem two of the best. But then again, to work those areas, you have to be very good.

Fine example of professional and spontaneous exchange between two different cultures in today's small airline/airport world:
The JFK controller dude, nice, he so local, with typical quick-mannered NY lingo, like it is his house, problem-solving, get-it out of the way, and with that casual american talk and joking.
The german pilot, well trained, his tone very cautious, applying a do-it-yourself attitude, in contrast to what is usually refered to the american approach, but here, for assurance and safety.
The controller, after second-like confusion, granting the request, sportsman-like, everybody happy. Possible that the german pilots conveyed the unbureaucratic approval to the pax. Win-win-win.

Quoting FlyLKU (Reply 8): Through what door/hatch? Is there a photo on the database that shows this?
First hatch in the cockpit brings you straight down to the E&E Bay, second one to the outside with a small ladder.
No idea if there is a pic of this in the database...but you can always try searching for one.

He has a group page that someone made. A pilot actually told him this over the radio once.

I am assuming that this would be via the nose wheel well, right? Or is it a separate hatch, a la the KC-135?

Quoting Tiger119 (Reply 12): We could have one just for "Boston John" at BOS:
John rules. His instructions are very clear and succinct. For example, the inflection in his drawn out "hooold shooort" makes it next to impossible to misinterpret. Plus, he doesn't just bid everyone goodbye or "hasta la vista" over the radio, he actually physically waves at each airplane as it climbs away! Fun guy work with from any standpoint.

I love this one. It would be awesome if someone could dissect this and use the plate map to do a real time track of every aircraft talking, their position and route. Little blinking dots for every aircraft position, where they are going as they are talking to show the congestion.

There is a photo somewhere of a TK engine standing by the access door after a TK 332 pushed back.
TK sends an engineer with the aircraft to some destinations that do not have ground engineer support, for whatever reason.
I am thinking there may have been a thread about it?
