EasyJet opened this week its longest route, from London-Luton to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion using Airbus A320. This is Easyjet first route to Israel.
Easyjet will fly 6 flights a week, roundtrip, and will join the other regular airlines on the Tel Aviv - London route: El Al, British Airways and British Midland (bmi).

Apprently the route has been a great success and payloads for the first few weeks are in-excess of 90% according to other websites...
The El-Al service has been downgraded from 767-200/300s as expected to a 757-200 due to the winter season... Apparently this was expected even before the easyJet service was introduced. It seems both services maybe able to co-exist, and service two different markets.
When El-Al launched from Luton it was always expected it would be operated by a 737-800, but due to demand was immediately upgraded to the 767.
Who would have thought a year ago Luton would have had a service to Tel-Aviv, and not it has 12 flights a week, offering nearly 600 seats a day on the route!
Quoting EL-AL (Thread starter): EasyJet opened this week its longest route, from London-Luton to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion using Airbus A320.
This route has a block time of 5hr 5mins outbound and 5hr 40mins onbound, but the new Sharm-El-Sheikh service starting around the same time has the slight edge... LTN to SSH has a block time of 5hr 20mins outbound and 5hr 50mins inbound.
Two A320's flew into LTN this week to be based there to fly these routes, with one designated to the TLV route and the other to service the new PFO and SSH routes. All of these flights leave LTN around 11-11.30am, and operate a short route in the morning to Europe or Scotland before flying to the above destinations.

What about other airlines, like BA?
What kind of service does El Al offer, and what is the difference in price between the two?
I mean if El Al has a superior product and is more comfortable, and the price is not that different people might chose them for such a long flight...

I believe LY will use B738, because there is only one B752 left in LY fleet, the rest are in Sun D'or service. One B762 moved to storage last week in TLV, 4X-EAC (built 1983).
Quoting MIgAiR54 (Reply 2): I think SSH and Hurghada are longer than TLV,
I read somewhere that TLV is EasyJet's longest route, but if they fly to Sinai and Egypt, those lines a longer. Not a pleasure to spend 4.5+ hours in A320 anyway.

El Al fly twice a day to LHR if I am not mistaken, and once (a day) to Luton. LY's morning flight to London, LY315, is one of El Al's most popular lines, operated always with B777 or B744. I flew this flight in 1998, for my first visit to Europe, with B742.
About the service, El Al offer everything that you expect from non-charter flight, like full meal, good legroom, entertainment etc. I wrote TR about my El Al flights to Italy a month ago, you can take a look and to get an impression of El Al European flights product: EL-AL At It's Best: TLV-MXP, FCO-TLV (+pics) (by EL-AL Oct 12 2009 in Trip Reports)
Quoting JU068 (Reply 5): Are there any other low-cost in TLV?
Yep: Corsair, TUI, Jetair, Hapag, Wind get, Air Berlin, Thomas cook, Blue Panorama, Air Europa, Bulgarian Air Charter, Wizzair, Axis, Neos, Eurofly, Air VIA, Liningston and bunch of Turkish Airlines: Sky, Onur Air, Corendon, IZair, Pegasus, Tailwind, Free Bird, Turkuas. That's all I remember now; those in addition to the Israeli airlines: Arkia, Israir & Sun D'or.

WOW! Go Easyjet
Service will do great - offering such cheap fares..
I just did a quick check Depart-March 8th Return-March 10th
Easyjet won -- $208 USD RT
El Al -- $686 and up USD RT
BMI -- $1,634 USD RT
British Airways -- $1,642 USD RT
Why is there only one flight? Why not operated 7 days a week (Daily)?

But then again that is probably not the cheapest option, I mean no airline is crazy enough to charge 478 dolars more than it's competition!
I am just sceptical about such a long flight in such a plane, I assume that the legroom is not that great. Do they have tv's in easyjet?
Talking of Easyjet, they are the first airline (excluding CY) to operate out of the new terminal at LCA. They start their operations on the 11th, where as the rest of them start on the 17th.

I wonder when EasyJet or any other European airline for that matter would add low-cost flights to Beirut. There is certainly a market for low-fare flights on the BEY-London/Paris/Madrid/Rome/Frankfurt segments!

So we could see GVA-TLV....

Maybe the problem is the bilateral between countries, if they don´t have open skies, the process is more difficul.
I think MAD will be serve soon by IB. BEY-CDG is very difficul market with MEA and AF already offering multiple flights a day.
Quoting JU068 (Reply 13): I am just sceptical about such a long flight in such a plane, I assume that the legroom is not that great.
We have example of routes with similar planes all over the world,
DEN-ANC, DEN-SJO by Frontier
SFO-BOS, SFO-NYC, SFO-IAD, SFO-FLL by Virgin America
MAD-MOW, MAD-LOS, MAD-TLV by Iberia
Quoting JU068 (Reply 13): I mean no airline is crazy enough to charge 478 dolars more than it's competition!
Of course not, but they will need to reduce the prize now, because they have more competition.
Most airlines fly 6 daily to TLV due to the Jewish Shabbat, on Saturdays almost the whole country shuts down.
Less so in Tel Aviv area...but it is accurate to say that from Friday night to Saturday sunset (the Shabbat), the country is very quiet. However, EasyJet could certainly make some money on Saturday flights-a lot of secular Israelis fly on Shabbat to avoid the Orthodox hordes in the airport and on flights the rest of the week. The BA Saturday flights are quite pricy at times-so EasyJet would have a great opportunity there.
The sky is the limit as long as you can stay there

Some (most?) of those are charters. In terms of LoCo scheduled service to TLV AFAIK there is Jet 2, Easyjet, Air Berlin and Jetairfly. There may be a couple of others but not many more

That's true for March 2010. But check flight prices for travel this month and, chances are, there will not be such a big difference between the carriers (with the exception of BA who tennds to be pricey).
