Just looking through some old magazines and came across several photos of 707's, 727,s & 747's including SP's of Air Gulf Falcon from around 2000-2001.

Seems they were based in SHJ though officially registered in Swaziland and the aircraft were registered in all sorts of African countries and Aruba as flags of convenience - see **. They also had an affiliated company in Sudan called Spirit of Africa who leased some aircraft.

Does anyone know what happened to them? Assume they were shut down for similar reasons to Air Cess who operated at a similar time.

Does anyone know the fate of all these classic airliners?

The only one I can find for sure as WFU is ex BA 741 c/n 248 3C-GFB which was left to die in SHJ

Other aircraft I can find they have operated are:

Ex JL 742 c/n 181 P4-GFE re-registered 3C-GFE then 5Y-GFE then went to Spirit of Africa as ST-AQL but returned to AGF

Ex CI / AE 74L c/n 445 P4-GFD re-registered 3C- 5Y- & 3D-GFE then donated to Iraqi

Ex Luftwaffe 707 300C c/n 756 3D-SGF re-registered 5Y-GFF then went to African Spirit as ST-AQI

Ex CI / AE 74L c/n 304 P4-GFC re-registered 5Y- & 3D-GFC

Ex BA 741 c/n 48 P4-GFA re-registered 3D-GFA - believe stored in MZJ ??

Ex BA (originally) 707 300C c/n 854 3D-SGG re-registered 5Y-GFG

Ex PA (originally) 707 300C c/n ?? 5Y-GFH

Ex CO 722 c/n ?? 3D-SGH

I think there were more aircraft, particularly 747's. Can anyone help?? Thanks!

** 3C = Equatorial Guinea, 5Y = Kenya, ST = Sudan, P4 = Aruba, 3D = Swaziland

Neither airline seem to be operating any longer.

Apparently, Air Gulf Falcon planned to operate Haj flights ex SHJ but are no more.

I recall that they gifted a 747 to Saddam Hussein around that time and sanctions were brought against them, which presumably affected their operations (not so much that they flew to the west, but in terms of obtaining spares.)

Hamad Al-Thani now has invested in an airline in the Philippines called Spirit of Manila that will shortly start operations with two MD-83s.
