Luchtvaartnieuws.nl (in Dutch) announced that from 2010, the local government Galicia will provide a 4.5M euro subsidy to start new routes from three regional airports: A Corona, Vigo and Santiago.

The subsidy is specifically aimed to support 5 routes:
LCG-AMS
LCG-VLC
VGO-BRU
VGO-SVQ
SCQ-ZRH

Interesting ehough, the article mentiones that Vueling has been selected to operate the international routes; there is no airline selected for the domestic routes yet.

What surprises me, is that none of these routes is submitted as a PSO subisidy at http://ec.europa.eu/transport/air/in...t/doc/2009_11_03_pso_inventory.pdf . It makes me wonder what the legal basis of the subsidy is. Why has it been awarded to VG, and not to, for example, HV, SN or LX?

Does anyone from Spain has more insight in this?

What I don´t understand is why the national routes are not for vueling as well, VLC and SVQ are vueling bases so they might do VLC-LCG-AMS-LCG-VLC and SVQ-VGO-BRU-VGO-SVQ with the same plane operating both routes.

ZRH will be a new destination for Vueling.

Maybe because vueling propose the routes and they accept, more or less like FR with other routes and airports. FR already has Frankfurt, Rome and London from Santiago and ALC, MAD and Reus.

The domestic routes will be awarded by an open competition.

Galicia govt didn´t do an open copetition so they have given the money to Vueling because they want, they will have a reason of course but i don´t know.

I remember last year or two years ago Comunidad Valenciana govt gave money to Air Nostrum and FR was really angry because they said that they deserve this money more than Air Nostrum, so they close the VLC base. We all know politicians.............they do whatever is better for them and IF it´s better for all......much better.
