Congratulations to VX and best of luck to you on your new SFO/LAX-FLL flights.
How do advace bookings look for the new service? I'm sure they will be quite full over the upcoming holiday season and then....

Will these flights be operated mainly with the 319s or will they up and downgauge them according to need?

Great! By far the cheapest, most modern, comfortable domestic carrier in the US! Love to fly them again next month. Ordering meals and drinks from your IFE screen. So cool.

VX is having a huge bash at the airport tomorrow. Tents and all. SRB has flown in and will be on location for the event as well! BTW, a good number of the passengers onboard today's flight will be executives and contest winners. Not sure what contest though? Maybe someone on here knows.

Certainly a very exciting addition to the VX network and the FLL roster. It almost seems to be becoming easier to reach Southeast Florida via FLL (where you have numerous LCCs) than MIA (where AA absolutely dominates).

Of course, FLL is the perfect gateway to Florida's Gold Coast - Fort Lauderdale's own famous beaches and cruise terminals are a stone's throw from the airport, while other luxurious locales that may well be frequented by the Virgin crowd such as Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Miami Beach aren't very far away either. I'm sure these flights will prove to be very popular!

While VX initially looked to have a nice monopoly on the SFO-FLL run, JetBlue (which did run OAK-FLL for a few years) immediately retaliated with its own service. So, Virgin will continue to face aggressive competition on every segment it flies, typically facing 3 and even 4 competitors on most of its routes. On LAX-FLL, VX will compete against daily Delta and Spirit flights (not to mention B6's LGB-FLL), although it will offer the only non-redeye service from the LA area. VX will also offer the only non-redeye service from SFO to FLL. I bet that those daylight flights will appeal to more than just a few folks!

I will be on the inaugural flight tomorrow morning and will definitely report on it.

I actually walked past the international terminal tonight and Jetblue was advertising the SFO-FLL inaugural flight. I guess Jetblue beats VX by starting a day earlier.

SurfandSnow, FYI, B6's LGB-FLL service is a redeye and always has been. As well, both DL & NK's nonstop LAX-FLL are both redeyes. Check out all the numerous resources out there before posting. It'll help ya in the long run. i.e.,

My apologies for any confusion - I tried to imply in my post that ALL of the competing flights (DL and NK from LAX to FLL, B6 from SFO and LGB to FLL) are redeyes. Virgin America will actually offer the only daytime flights from California to FLL. This may be attractive to those that do not like to take redeye flights.

Right on, SurfandSnow. Completely agree with you there. Some people don't like redeyes at all while others only like flying on redeyes so they don't an entire day traveling.

Writing live from 31,000feet... Now over Bakersfield and the routing is a bit southerly and then turning over to the Gulf of Mexico. Flying time is five hours.

N521VA "Let There Be Flight" is the aircraft in charge...

So far the gate was filled with music and a giant "Stay Golden" display! Typical continental breakfast buffets as well as usual speeches...

There is a gift bag and now they just announce a free makeup session "Golden Glow" for all that are interested... courtesy of Bare Essentials... Complimentary food and beverages... special morning cocktails... the flight was mostly staff and about 75% full. Lots of media type as expected.

Anybody know what festivities will be awaiting these two flights on arrival? SRB indicated on Twitter that he is there and that there will be "quite the welcome celebration" when the two flights arrive.

Yes, he is already there. There are big tents everywhere. It is done in true Virgin style. In fact, the plans for the arrival of the flight we so extravagant that the FLL autorities had to tell Virgin to ''calm'' it down a notch!!!! Anyway, gotta go as I'm headng there now to see her arrival (I'm lucky to be working the lateshift today)

The most amazing afterparty... I have been to many inaugural flights and this after party has to be the best. We parked at an open area next to Terminal Four and there was a tent with golden themed furniture and decor and a fully staffed bar. This kind of party rarely invites passengers to join and I really command Virgin for including passengers in this inaugural launch. Just an amazing experience! I will try to upload the pictures now and will do an official trip report!

Thanks Virgin America for a great inaugural party!

I told you it was going to be incredible... and it is truely perfect for South Florida. VX will have lots of success down here if they keep up this mentality. It is Fort Liquordale after all. I still think VX would also be a GREAT fit for MIA. The only other amazing party I can think of that I attended is the Pink flight party at AKL!! Wouldnt mind also trying the Guetta flight to IBZ. That must be something!

Good to see VX serving Florida.

Personally I would have liked to see them at Miami to go after more of the business traffic and also poke a hole in AA's monopoly to LA and SF.
I think they will do fine at FLL in the load department, however with folks like B6 and NK competing at the airport they should never expect the routes to be a high-yielding ones.

How long will NK last on their single daily FLL-LAX flight?

While there are now 4 airlines on LA-FLL, they actually all do serve 4 different areas.
Obviously, DL has potential to fill some of the aircraft from SkyTeam connections at LAX inbound from Asia and Australia. B6 has a niche market in LGB. NK fills for connections to the Caribbean and VX could handle the rest of the O&D.

While I'm not saying they will all survive, all four can certainly maintain their own.

Now, of course, I would love to see more competition on LA-MIA!
