Concesionaria Vuela Compania de Aviacion, S.A. de C.V. dba Volaris, has applied with the DOT to commence service between Monterrey and Los Angeles. The carrier plans to commence the service at the soonest opportunity after the authority is granted.

This would be Volaris 5th market from LAX. Quite a fast build up!

I think OAK considers itself lucky to have Volaris. But I think they could open OAK-Morelia and OAK-Zacatecas...maybe OAK-SJD.

I hope Volaris gets the approval to start this new service to MTY. Am I correct in saying this route has not been served since Aviacsa closed?

It sounds like Volaris is doing quite well out of LAX! Congratulations to them.

Is the SJC market large enough for Volaris to open up a couple of routes from there? I know MX does very well out of SJC.

Mexicana did MTY-LAX briefly dropping it sometime this summer.

Wow! I know several people who fly to MTY often and it seems to be a pretty big market from Southern California. In fact if memory serves me correctly, I believe ex California Governor Davis went with his delegation to promote service to Southern California to MTY a couple of years prior to him getting re-called from office.

This is interesting, Mexicana runs the show on LAX-Mexico routes, or pretty much on California-Mexico (except SAN)... Volaris is starting to build a little niche at LAX, so if/when the Southwest partnership kicks in, I suspect Volaris will give MX a lot more competition than Aeromexico has ever done at LAX.

I've never quite understood why SJC hasn't been able to attract other Mexican carriers beyond MX. OAK in the past has had AeroCancun (charter), Allegro Air, TAESA and Azteca before landing Volaris.
