When I was at PHL on Friday, I decided to mosey on over to Terminal A to see if I could get some pics of the LH A340 before it left. Unfortunately it pushed back while I was still walking in the corridor between Terminal B and A...however I looked to see the BA aircraft in the gate and I almost fainted...It was a 744! I have never seen a 744 at PHL before and this took me completely by surprise, as BA uses a 772 or occasionally a 742 into PHL. I raced through Terminal A, camera on and ready, however the BA gate at PHL is a lousy gate for photography and I was resigned to go back to the corridor and take a lousy picture from there.
Is the 744 gonna be a regular sight?

As part of their summer schedule, BA beefed up one of their two daily flights with a 744. It will go back to to 777s in the fall. US also added a 762 flight for the summer in addition to their 333 service.

I have not tried this since they started construction on the new Intl. Terminal, but if you go to the top level of the parking garage for Terminal A, you get a really good overview of Terminal and the airport.

i have been in the A gates at PHL many times myself, and I agree, the second half of the concourse is pretty lousy. This of course is due to the walkway to the planes and customs area, and the associated double paned glass and your distance from the plane.
But the front half of "A" (where American, Midway, and Midwest Express park) is ok. I've taken many pictures from those windows.
I also had a letdown. I tried in vain to get the US A330 back in October when I was at PHL. But it parked at the Int'l gates, and just did not get into position for a good shot, despite the sunshine.
