WN Replaces DL As Airline Sponsor Of Sundance Film

The prime winter event in SLC, the Sundance Film Festival announced that WN will replace DL as the official airline of the festival. This is the second big corporate pullback for DL in the last 3 years in SLC giving up the naming rights to the NBA Jazz arena.

I'd say it's got more to do with DL saving cash atm.

Although it isn't a good look, i doubt you'll find much sundance traffic ends up flying in on WN. I worked up at Stein Eriksen Lodge years ago and had to organise arrivals for a lot of that trafffic, who of course stayed in deer valley. About 20% of them flew in on private aircraft, the bulk on Delta and a small amount on jetblue/American/United and that was pretty much it.

70% of the passenger traffic at SLC is on DL or DLC/OO, even though WN has a loyal following here in the local market, so perhaps this move was to appease that group more than any. DL does have adversing at two large NCAA venues; The University of Utah and Brigham Young University. B6 however has the charter contract for BYU.

Agreed, this could be a chance for those who may not be able to afford that flight on DL to make it to SLC other wise. This could be a benifit for the Sundace Fesitval, which culd be a reason why they changed sponsors, WN benifiting it could be a side effect of it all.

DL usually matches fares with WN on routes it competes directly with them on in SLC. As for the stars and other celebrities, you won't believe the demand for limousine service during the festival. Many coming in on private jets. Who knows, one day even John Travolta could show up at the executive terminal on the east side with his 707!
