Hello everyone,
Welcome to the last month of the year. It is nice to have the holidays once again.
This last month we were talking about the Hadj flights and the fog issues at IST. Now there is talk of Cat III improvements for some airports. Bahadir is flying from Renton to IST.
Please continue where we left off with your news, rumors, suggestions, good humor and all.

Good day.

So bit of news. The turqoise dominated seating in short-haul aircraft at TK will gradually disappear it seems. The fleet is going to back to navy blue leather. I have flown TC-JRK A321 last night and the I adored the quality of the new seat cover. With the pink curtains and handles it looks great inside.

It looks like the narrowbody seating will gradually switch to new seat covers.

I enjoyed the turqoise was very unique. Although my preference was the old style on the A310s. Sadly my last day in Istanbul hope to get some spottıng at IST today.

Will be flying TK for the holidays this year. I'm hoping for the often experienced larger aircraft on route, at least between BRU and IST. Any widebody type welcome, with a preference for the B777-300ER, I've already flown the other options in TK's fleet. If not the announced A320's or B737's, that will warrant a trip report!

on very rare occasions the 343 appears in BRU, but don't expect the 77W. this aircraft is heavily used on other routes with really tight schedules (therefore a lot of long delays the last weeks). btw TK to BRU today was also reaaaaaally late, I saw something like 5hrs

We are missing the "summary post" which you used to do for starting the month's thread. That really was great!

Hi,

I flew SAW -Stanstead on 26.11.09

Check in staff are clueless. I am an Elite member and he wanted to see my credit card.

I told him that was not needed he insisted it was and wanted me to go join another line to speak to the supervisor. - I find this unexcaptable i am a customer and shouldn't be asked to go from one side of the airport to another. I never did so in the end the supervisor had to come over - The way it should be .

They should call Sabiha Gokcen Airport Sabiha Gokcen Delayport. Nice airport but managment is just funny.Too many errors one after another.

Air Craft was one of the short term leased ones. As one passanger called it Bodrum Aircraft with basic facilities. Clean and tidy but not very comfortable. Tasty food. Cheerful and professional crew. Lack language skills again

Standstead- SAW on 30.11.09

I left Central London at 6:30 pm to catch my flight at 22:45 pm . The bus I took broke down and was at the check in desk at 22:25. Found out was^n't the only one. Called Thy call centre and was told I could still make the flight. Check in was closed but the sales rep helped us check in. He had so much attitude - One passanger asked him what was wrong and he said she was late, and that was what it was  Sad . So we would be better off if he didn't help us at all.

Again good food and very friendly and professional crew on board . Good commnand of English however they missed some important bits of the passanger announcments.

Arrived at the airport at 4:00 am to be bused to the terminal despite the dozens of jet bridges.

Bags arrived in good time and shape despite my very late check in.

Overall TK was not consistent with service levels once again.

Quoting TK787 (Reply 6):

It is just horrible how TK "cares" about it's website. They don't understand, that a website is the most important PR thing in the 21st century... Just stupid. You can invest billions into the fleet, but this doesn't make any sense if the website looks like being programmed by a youngster in one afternoon... Just stupid!

Quoting OA260 (Reply 8):

Nice trip report. Didn't know that you can fly just cheap from ATH to IST... But miserable seat occupation if you tell OA had 20 and TK 12 passengers...

Let's speculate: Is this the long awaited TK order?
http://www.flightglobal.com/articles...stomer-orders-52-airbus-a320s.html
Tells sth about 52 A320 aircraft. Nothing about necessarily needed bigger aircraft like the A321.

Anyways, i am in Dakar now, i have almost finished my 8 day trip from IST-DKR-GRU-DKR-IST. I have had an amazing time, flying across the south atlantic, through severe turbulence, i was in the air at the same time as the AF 445 mayday, they flew more through it than i did. The loads at these airports are doing quite well, auxilated by good cargo loads bringing in good money.

Fog situation : I had to fly to AYT in the 340 and back to recover the smaller guys' mess *just kidding* and to help out to get things back to normal. IST is not suited for a CATIII with the current terrain and hold short spaces available, the entire airport design needs to be redone. including hold short sensors, centerline lights, even the lines and the jetways need to be redone for cat III, apparently there is an official ICAO checklist in some annex for airports that holds these requirements...oh yeah and we need money for it all...i don't think we need CATIII it happens maybe once a year or twice, other than that CAT II is plenty, this is a pilot's point of view, passengers may horribly disagree....

herkeze iyi bayramlar bu arada!!
Turkish aviation thread is doing well! we should keep this up!

I recently travelled on TK PRG IST NBO (and back).

I was pleasantly impressed with TK. Aircraft were new (B738s, mostly, and one A321). Crew were top notch, very polite and helpful. Meals were good. Even IST airport was much nicer than what I'd been expecting.

The only negatives on the whole experience was that TK's staff seemed overwhelmed by the volume of activity in IST. That being said, despite both my flights from IST being mega-late for departure, they both arrived on time, which means they had been massively over-blocked. Imagine if they could get that resolved!

Overall, the vibrancy of IST, the numerous airlines there, and the size of the Turkish domestic market surprised me.

I understand that. However, if we have no problem utilising western aircraft why not do it right ? Including airports and ATC- You can add your personal experiences here as a pilot.

I am sure you don't mean it the way it sounds but this "Oh It's Turkey" attitude almost justifies the hundreds that were killed in aviation related accidents over the years in Turkey

I say this as someone who has lived in the east, the west and Turkey. I don't agree that the western way of doing things is the best way.

I could live in IST or SAW rather then having to spend any more time then I need to at one of the LHR airports.

Just trying to say that 2+2 = 4 not 3 1/2 or 5 or 6.

My personal experience is ATC in IST sucks big time but on the other hand if we bring LHR or JFK ATC staff alltogether to IST they will suck even more.

When I get mad to ATC I dont get angry to the person infron of radar screen but I get angry on the mentality that DHMI works.Few days ago I flew from IST to Casablanca, its approx. 5 hours each leg and I heard the same person on the approach as I spoke during departure.ATC job is not working at an office or else.Your brain should be alert at all times. These guys are over worked and underpaid and less educated people handling miilions of dollars worth of hardware and thousands of lives.

I asked one of them once, if nobody in DHMI thought about sending them to an internship at LHR ATC,she told me yes they made an agreement with LHR to send 5 ATControlllers to become instructors later and the menagement used this opportunity to send 5 of their "coworkers" who are nearing their retirements as a gift of aprreciation of their service and they spend 2 months at LHR ,returned back and retired.Awesome isnt it.This is why Turkey is Turkey, not the Superpower Turkey or not the biggest space shuttle manufacturar Turkey.

This was great piece of information provided by Aydin.. It was quite informative and in a wierd way, it kinda made me proud  Smile If I were still flying for TK, I would be a cabin chief on 737/320 family and regularly flying 330/340 and possibly 777. So I probably would get a chance to fly with Aydin every now and then. It would be a pleasure..

P.S: Do the crew still ask how you like your tea/coffee before take off?  Smile
