New Paint For United?

After searching airliners.net and not finding anything on this topic, I began to scratch my head?? According to this article United will replace all seats and overhead bins with new blue leather seats and larger bins, and also re-paint all aircraft " Good news! United plans to replace all the dated seats with new blue leather seats and they plan to re-paint all their aircraft."

http://blog.seattlepi.com/airlinereporter/archives/186429.asp

So does this mean that there is a new paint scheme coming out for United or is it they will finally repaint the remaining fleet of grey birds? It has me wonder since it says ALL AIRCRAFT? But we all know how well the media does when it comes to reporting the airlnes. Any new news on Uniteds narrowbody aircraft search? I would love to see a mix of Boeing 737-700/800 Smile

I hope they are not planning on re painting the whole fleet again. It looks good right now and why waste money on a simple and clean looking paint job

I expect it means they will complete painting the fleet in the new colors.

As for the narrowbody search, I don't expect either Boeing or Airbus to agree to UA's desired terms. Assuming UA accepts that and agrees to more reasonable terms, it's really Airbus' order to lose, IMO.

At first I was disappointed that UA introduced a new livery, because I like the battleship grey. But the new livery has really grown on me as very fresh looking. I don't understand why the blogger thinks it looks outdated.

Probably not and probably UA knows this. But the harder you play ball (and the bigger the order) the better the conditions may be for these new aircraft. I also expect Airbus to have the upper hand, but let's wait and see. I still hope the widebody order will be split (788 and a359), that seems the best fit for UA IMHO.

Well my guess is that they will get A319, A320s and A321s cause of the common cockpit, means no new sims and they already have pilots trained, unless boeing gives them a really good deal on the 737NG

I agree, I also liked the grey scheme and didnt like the current scheme at first, but now I´m used to it it looks fresh and clean to me among other airlines.
I heavily doubt UA is contemplating about a new colourscheme. Maybe they just want to accelerate the repaint of the last aircraft still in grey. UA´s livery transition has been veeeery slow so far.

Ugh I hated the gray scheme. It was always dirty and looked like bondo. I liked the rainbow design from the 70's. They should go back to that. Their current design is a bit boring - but I think it forces them to wash their planes more - so they are a bit cleaner.

I'm still not a big fan of their current scheme, I thought the gray one was very professional and business-like, but now with this predominantly white scheme, the planes look dirtier on the outside and it always looks like it's chipping (though I believe United maybe correcting this as I remember a thread talking about how they were dissatisfied with the company currently painting their aircraft)....guess I'm just nostalgic for the United of the 1990's

I completely agree. I still do not like the new design. The gray color scheme really set United apart and you could tell a UA plane from a distance, no matter what side you saw - even if it flew directly overhead. Now their planes look too much like everybody else's.

I have to say though, that the new scheme does look better on certain aircraft, particularly the regional jet fleet. They looked sort of dreary in the gray outfit. But when it comes to a 777 or 747, the majestic look of the gray scheme has been replaced by the insignificant understatement of the new white.

Overall I am not happy with United's new brand strategy and I certainly question the professionalism of their ad agency. But that's a whole different topic....

Well. since we are all putting our 2 cent wish list in on paint....I actually think they should go back to the font used with the rainbow stripe, but with a more modern use of teh colors from the late 60's..then use the tulip U on the tail....Just my 2 pennies!

I believe the referenced article was that they were putting the new seats in the 320's that were Ted and repainting those aircraft. The white top scheme in use now is far better for maintaining cabin temps in warm climates which reduces apu and ground equip demands for cooling....and reportedly less paint is needed so less weight. And yes...the dark scheme did not age well at all and more than a few tower folks called it the 'stealth' paint scheme as it was difficult to see in low light levels. Great idea on paper but not practical....

My bet is Boeing for the long haul fleet and airbus for the short haul fleet. Just my .02 based on how they have ordered in the past.

All the recently-retired UA 737's were "Classics", a bunch of -300's and a few -500's unless I'm much mistaken, but no NG's.

If a merger were to happen, they'd probably come up with something new.

Please god let it never happen, though.

The UA tulip is a famous brand mark worldwide, the CO globe, while pretty, is just a globe. The most generic graphic in the world!

Would a new livery be nice? Sure. Is it needed? Absolutely not. I think UA has other things to worry about besides designing and trying to paint all of their aircraft into a new livery. ex: A consistent interior throughout the whole fleet. Keep the white scheme, It looks great.

This article mentions the "classics", but from my understanding, United does not have any NG's, hence no 737's in the current fleet.

My mistake. I should have extended that sentence to include "because 'Classics' were the only 737's UA had". Initially I thought that was inferred by the original quote I was responding to, but in going back and reading my post I see that I wasn't quite clear.
