This CVR is from the Embraer Legacy (N600XL) that hit the Gol 737-800 over Brazil.

All aboard the 737 (154 souls) perished in the crash.

The Embraer, with 7 aboard, made an emergency landing.

I have both CVR files in their entirety. The GOL was so sad I find it hard to listen to and rarely do but the XLaire is quite interesting.

Personally, I think it would go against everything I stand for in aviation to listen without being an investigator. It just seems as sacred ground that should be untouched by the public.

My $.02

Yeah, that's what I wondered. I know it must have been a stressful situation, speaking mildly, but that is one foul-mouthed individual flying the Legacy.

The GOL recording is harrowing stuff alright.

Did they ever find out just exactly how the Legacy transponder got switched to standby?

If you look at the NTSB investigation report, they appear to be questioning the positioning of the footrests and the placement of the transponder switch. To me it appears they discovered that do to the design, one could easily accidentally switch the transponder. They made recommendations on how to fix the problem in the future.

It was available with William Langewiesche's masterful piece in Vanity Fair's website, but not anymore.

Pilots don't crap flowers, this coupled with the fact it was a pretty instense situation doesn't surprise me.

Unfortunately the internet changed all that.

Actually I would have expected worse under the circumstances. Imagine what it would have been like if they would have realized what happened at the time.

Sad all the way around.

I was just looking at some photos of N600XL and I find it amazing that such little damage to this aircraft caused a 738 to crash. Just goes to show that everything was just right to be wrong.

Where is the Legacy today? A search said it was still in Brazil a year after the crash.
