Why Is The B757 So Popular For Charter?

Can somebody explain to me why the Boeing 757 is such a popular aircraft for charter-airliners.

Good range for charter ops, fairly high capacity (-200 = 239 max, -300=280 max) . Can operate from quite short runways, cheap to operate compared to some other a/c. Something like that?

757 is ultimate acft for short and midhaul charters. it have good capacity being all-economy configured, it have enough range (for european companies) to operate f.e. any leasure destination in Europe, North Africa, Canarian, Middle East.
also 753 is known to have cheapest seat-per-mile costs of any narrowbody acft.
it have capacity comparable with 767 but maintanance is much less expensive.
