Surely tomorrow we'll have a full view of the plane. Another 777, I-DISA, is in the paintshop right now and there's speculation on whether it'll come in new livery colors or the SkyTeam anniversary livery!
Beautiful!

Big deal! It's a minor update of Walter Landor's 1966 design.
I can get the original Walter drawings - but all one has to do is look at a 1973 747 to see how similar they are. I am happy it's just an update since Alitalia was the worlds first airline to really go far to using their livery as am expression of their brand. Mabie Pam American was a bit ahead with the Chermyeff & Giesmar Pan Am globe.
I'm always impressed at how beautiful a canvas the 777 is for a livery!

Not to be too critical, but why is it called a "NEW" Livery when all they did was use the same colors, just extended the green red here and there and minimized it in other places. Just like with Air France, Seriously?! Did they pay someone to think up their "NEW" Livery?! I would hope not, I'm sure they did though. Something a preschooler could have done. Just my opinion! I guess when I think of "NEW" I think of something dramatic. Instead they, AZ and AF, should call it "Same Livery version II" Hell you never know it could be someone idea thrown on the floor when they came up with the last one now they went back and looked at the old ideas! lol

I would bet AF paid a few hundred thousand dollars for that minor change. It done by a branding company called Degrippes Gobe which is now called "Brand Image". If you google them they will provide a rational of thier services which will highlight more about the strategic thinking they provided bs a "livery"
What is ironic will be how a company will rationalize the change as a signal of something new. Clearly the client (AF) was not prepared to tell the world how much better things were going to change in the same was CO wanted to when the changed the orange meatball or Varig did in 1999 when they moved from the 1950's scheme to the elegant sun/compass as DL just did with the big new widget scheme. SQ has not changed much as their brand promise is the same today as it was 30+years ago = the worlds best. (which is what Walter Landor was asked to do when Singapore gained it's independence! Since then only minor updates happened. But the gold swan will be there when SQ launches service to Mars.
I applaud Alitalia as they decided, dispite recent troubles, they will always be Italy's flag airline!

My opinion by the way! I have found livery designs on airliners.net the #1 most subjective topics!!!

Not a huge change, but I think it's a solid improvement. It looks very clean and smooth on the airframe.
Quoting VC10er (Reply 7): Varig did in 1999 when they moved from the 1950's scheme to the elegant sun/compass
I still believe the original sun and compass Varig livery to be the most beautiful livery of all time. Just because you made me think about it:

CO1OT3, a designer working under the direction of the amazing Margaret Youngblood at Landor in SF did the VARIG work in 1996 (wow, no pun, But time does fly!!!
What a waste of truely beautiful work.
I was there the day they rolled out the new livery in Rio on a 747-300.
She sparkled like a new Caddy!!!

At night, with only the red triangle lit on the tail, the scheme does look good.
No, it isn't a new livery, yes it is only a revision. Problem? None.
You've got a classic colour scheme (classic because it is a design classic and classic because it is so easily recognised) with a recognisable brand - why just throw all that away by getting rid of it? What is wrong with a couple of minor touches to bring it all into the 21st century??
Now all they have to do is try and associate all of that with a decent product! No mean feat. It will be long and hard, but first signs are encouraging.
I don't think the revised colour scheme is all that bad, it does its job, and it does it well. Having said that though, there are mock ups around (somewhere on the Internet) of an entirely new livery on a 777 that just looks incredible!! Unless I'm mistaken, it was done by enthusiasts and was never taken into consideration. But it would have been quite fabulous to see in real life!!

Been waiting for this for a long time, revised livery looks awesome on the T7. Contrarily to a lot of people, I think the rebranded Alitalia livery is very good; as Inesilio said, when you have a classic livery and recognized brand, all that's needed is a few retouches occasionally.
Cheers, Nick

Personally... I think it looks magnificent, I am a huge fan of this revised paint job. In my opinion its sort of similar to what Porsche do with their 911's. The style and heritage remain, but it has a modern stylish twist, great work Alitalia!!

Quoting Jayeshrulz (Reply 12): this does not luk good at all!!
please i hope whenever they are taken over next time, they remove the algae green color which stinks!
With all due respect sir, Green has been a color in the AZ color scheme since the 60's. Wile I do admit I wish the color was a bit darker it still looks good on their planes. I have stated this with AF and QF - sometimes all an airline needs is a simple modern twist to make their planes look good, however I will always love the old AZ color scheme.

Landor has an amazing portfolio of colour schemes, but there has always been something special about the AZ scheme launched 40 years ago. Say what you will, but it is one of the most timeless designs ever applied to a commercial aircraft. I thought I was pretty much alone in my feelings, so I was cheered by all the other posters who are similarly enthused.
The update is alright, but I agree the with earlier poster who felt some of the warmth is gone.

Whats different!! Im not a lover for the Alitalia scheme at all. I think it is outdated. Looks like other airlines had in the 80's and 90's

Quoting SXDFC (Reply 23): That is one good lookin Italian!!! Does anyone know if she also got a cabin refurbishment as well?
hi,
I'm not sure, but the new cabins were introduced in the late 2007, so i think it still has the one with lie flat beds and green carpet which was introduced at that time.
