Well we all know what a great source wikipedia is, but it has been rumored that AA would start (restart?) MLB-MIA.

Even though MLB-MIA involves backtracking, it is almost negligible (160 mi) and ought to be able compete with ATL and soon to be, CLT, for northbound connecting traffic. If true, I wonder if the city has promised them any revenue guarantees/waived landing fees like they did for US? I would imagine so.

I would think so as they gave US 2 years for free if I recall.

Regardless of wikipedia's reliability, MAH4546's track record is second to none.

AA hasn't released anything announcing MLB-MIA yet. I'm sure they will announce MLB service in the coming months though.

This "rumor" is not so far fetched. AA is looking to open many more routes out of MIA this coming year and MLB may be one of them. In the same light that MIA-PNS was rumoured on here for quite some time without a peep from MIA and what do you do know come April 2010 MIA-PNS goes double daily with ERJ-145 service.

It will not be the first time AA has served the MIA-MLB market. Eagle served the route back in the 90's along with Miami - Naples and Marathon.

It's not far fetched at all. It's a perfectly viable market. It's just not happening in April 2010. Anyone who says otherwise is simply wrong.

If anyone thinks they know otherwise, FOR A FACT, I invite to PM me.

Wouldn't understand why this is so far fetched of a rumor. AE has been expanding service within the last year from the MIA hub to other points in florida. When did AE stop serving MLB?

I fully expect to see American Eagle at Melbourne (and Gainesville for that matter) soon enough, but it will not be happening as soon as April. Spring's new destinations - Birmingham and Pensacola - are set. Anything else will likely not be added until the fall (and there is a long list of destinations being looked, and many won't make the cut). Eagle at MIA is tight on ATR's (which are being ridiculously high utilized since the DFW move - AA has less ATRs available to them at MIA, but has more ATR flights than ever in the past eight years, and more Cuba charters) and gate space. The former still needs to be solved and the latter will be solved when the new Eagle terminal opens in fall 2010.

It's a good market for Eagle to re-efnter - high fare, limited competition and it is close enough to MIA that even though it is "back-tracking," it is still a very viable alternative to CLT/ATL.

As of now, Eagle planes to go from around 60 daily to 100 daily departures by January 2011 at MIA.

Also, AA might be able to tap into the local market because both Miami and Melbourne are major economic centres for Aerospace, Aeroservice and Aerotechnology companies. More, importantly though, Melbourne's importance as an Aerospace centre can create high-yielding feed to parts of South America, especially for Embrarer.

I did not say April 2010 and I don't think anyone is saying MLB to launch April 2010.

Yup I tried to find anything on AA's website but could not find anything. I was just hoping that maybe one of you guys might have known something. But I have heard talks here of more airlines to come besides Direct and US into MLB and AA was one of them and another was B6 to BOS by late 2010. But since I have worked here in MLB from 1999 til now nothing is good until it lands and stays.

As awesome as that sounds, I'll believe it when I see it. MLB only has DL to ATL, US to CLT, DirectAir to Niagara Falls, Punta Gorda, and IAD, and Baer to Freeport. I can see AA flying to MIA, but B6 to BOS seems like a stretch.

I think DAB will have B6 to JFK before MLB gets B6 to BOS. You can have AA first, but we get B6 first.  Wink
