There's speculation surrounding a press conference which will apparently run tomorrow at Faro, Portugal announcing the start of a Ryanair base there.

I'm only quoting from another forum here, so don't shoot the messenger. But the post read:

"Press conference with MOL on Wednesday in Faro.

The press release that informs about the press conference has exactly the same information that the one that informed about the press conference that announced the base at Porto."

Wonder what routes they have up their sleeve.

Take a guess! The routes from this airport would be some of the easier ones to guess.  Silly

Would be good if it happens: it would help cement FR's presence in Portugal* and in the Algarve area (FR presently has 14 routes to FAO), obviously a popular summer spot and also the airport for southern Portugal.

* It already has a base at OPO. Useful links:

Well yes, the existing routes are a given. But if they simply move based aircraft to run these routes then it will free up aircraft from other bases. So I presume they'll be announcing some new routes in addition the existing 14.

BVA, EIN, FKB, FMM, BLL, RYG? Maybe LGW?

We'll see tomorrow.

I notice that there's a petition online for FR to create a base at FAO:

Assuming FAO becomes a base and existing routes, which are to Ireland, the UK, Belgium,
Germany and one domestic Portugese route, aren't transferred, obvious routes include other
UK destinations, such as EDI, NCL, MME, DSA, BHX, LGW; Netherlands, namely EIN and MST; Germany, like LBC, FMM, FKB, AOC; Scandinavia, such as BLL, AAR, GSE, NYO, RYG/TRF; and so on. Perhaps also some from Italy, Spain, France (BVA).

Lots of possibilities!

Quoted from the Irish thread:

"Looks like Ryanair is set to announce three new routes to Ireland as part of their big expansion at Faro which will see 14 new routes at the new base along with an additional 14 at another new base at Malaga!

Faro - Knock
Faro - Kerry
Faro - Derry"

Note: new base at Malaga!

Will be good to see what materalises.

Both Faro and Malaga will be nice bases for some lucky flight crews.

FR will now have strongholds at all the airports for the key Spanish coastal tourist areas - GRO (also good for the ever-popular Barcelona, Spain's second-largest city), REU, ALC (big city), AGP (big city) - and it also is increasingly growing at PMI, IBZ, TFS, LPA and ACE, all five being non-bases. And with its announcement of FAO, it will obviously improve its dominance in Southern Portugal and the popular Algarve.

Note that FAO-MAD is a reintroduced route.
