DL + NW Combined Counter At PDX

On Dec 15th, the NW counter shut down, and they moved to the Delta counter in the North lobby. They still use two different bagrooms, though the belts are right next to each other.

The central lobby looks pretty stark now. You have a large empty counter where NW was. The space right next to that has been empty since TWA was bought by AA. AA gave back half their counter space. United is giving back 1/4 of their counter space early next year.

I don't know why HA doesn't have their own counters? They have their own agents now. I heard US Airways will not move closer to their C concourse gates. I guess they are happy at the far end of the North lobby.

It's been awhile since I XFR'ed out of PDX, but here's a few questions:

I wonder why NW doesn't just move into the "old" DL bag room? It's got plenty of room for both carriers combined operation.

Why wouldn't US want to move out of the purgatory they're currently located in?

As for empty ticket counter space, there's also plenty at the south end too...

I believe it is a union issue with the IAW workers at NW.

No, it's not.

There's nothing precluding NW & DL workers from sharing the facilities themselves. Plenty of other cities are doing just that in various capacities. On top of that, if it's still laid out the way it was when I worked there, there's ample room for both to be under the same roof, and never come near one another.

It'd be really nice if WN would grab part of that old TWA counter. Their counter is usually really packed.

They are both in the old DL bagroom. They razed the old DL auto sort, and installed 3 race tracks. WN has the west one, NW the center, and DL has the east one. I don't know the plans they have up coming. They still might need two race tracks for their combined schedule.

They did just add another two ECU's. They did take some of the old TWA counter about six years ago.

Good info, and thank you. Like I said, I've been gone from PDX for awhile now...  Sad

I was just guessing based off what NW counter employees & a supervisor told me months ago when they rebranded the NW counter to DL but didn't move to DL. I thought it was strange so I asked and three people from NW told me it was union issues. Seemed strange as I know other NW staffed stations had already merged with DL.

I was at PDX on the 15th and watched the painters as they repainted the NW counter. It's just a big empty space now.
