Just saw on WDR teletext that DUS is currectly closed due to snow and wind. Any other European airports affected? I know the Mid-Atlantic States are badly affected. How's it looking over there at the moment?

AMS is badly affected by the heavy snow fall, only 1 runway open. May delays, cancellations and diversions to all over the place. Some flights to MST, CGN, HAJ, STN and even GOT.
Zanair flight, please hold on finals as we have to clear rhino's off the runway. Next flight: AMS-FRA-SIN-FRA-AMS

Not good. Isn't DUS a diversion airport when AMS is closed?

I just heard the WDR 2 radio news, a DUS airport spokesman said that they don't know when the airport will be open again, they are simply unable to carry this huge amount of snow away at the moment. When I look out of the window I would say that it remains closed for a while, I live approx. 45 kilometers away from DUS and it is snowing like crazy here. I have no clue where I can get smokes, I will definitely not drive to the gas station to buy some, the snow on the streets is at least 10 centimeters high and the WDR traffic news are reporting of several accidents on the Autobahns around here.

DUS flights are also diverting to HAJ, FMO and FRA, although the bulk of lfights has gone to CGN.
From what I can see, even Lufthansa is diverting to smaller airports such as FMO (e.g. flights from LHR and BUD) and HAJ (e.g. flight from WAW), not only to CGN and FRA. According to the news, FRA is also operating with some limitations due to snow.
As CGN has now also accepted diversions from LGG, it seems that LGG is closed as well..

No way. I will get my snowboard jacket now and walk through the snow to the next cigarette automat which is approx. 10 minutes away. I am rather freezing for 20 minutes than having no smokes.

AMS is slowly recovering form the snow. The worst has past and 1 runway is now fully open and they working on a second one. Incoming flights can be accepted and departures are going right over my house.

Telling from teletext, FMO must be closed now as well as all departures since 12:30 show as cancelled.
In another thread it was mentioned that MAN is now closed as well. Seems to become a Europe-wide issue.

I have a gut feeling that the automat will not work because of the cold temperatures. But you should take the walk anyway to let your tarred lungs have some fresh air

Yes it has started snowing since almost a hour here in FRA. My girlfriend has to stay at least a hour longer in here early shift and all late shifts were called almost two hours later for duty. Poor colleges at the airport. They already had to handle irregularities the last four days!
Quoting Sabena332 (Reply 10): I am rather freezing for 20 minutes than having no smokes.
Lucky me that I got fresh supply from a friend who returned from duty today.
Especially the guys who have to work outside at the ramp. I don't want to work there today in these weather conditions.

And I had to work through a damned snowstorm (I didn't see one single car on the streets). I only had coins for one box, I took Lucky Strike instead of Marlboro because there is one cigarette more in the box.

I was on Delta 25 from DUS to ATL and it was canceled. The pilot said DUS does not have the equipment to clean off the runways or aircraft with this much snow. Now we cannot get our luggage because the say the equipment is frozen! What a mess.
I am sitting in a delayed ICE train from Hanover to Frankfurt, but it's only 20 oe 30 minutes. look forward to nthe ndrive home. There miust be cancellations in BRE as well, from BRE to HAJ there was a family in the train that showed ar tickets to MUC.

That's why i always pack a change of cloths with me in my backpack when i travel international. You never know when you may end up staying overnight
Then I will call our HCC to send you all the diversions to CPH!

Another friend of mine is a ramp agent. O and I think he has late shift today. Lets call him and find out how the situation currently is in FRA.

That's what I call effective handling of the situation.

At least you will be home. My girlfriend told me that they already have problems to rebook or reroute passengers to several destinations. Lets hope the weather improves otherwise it will be Christmas at the airport for many passengers.

DUS seems to be open again. Their website is still down but I just took a look at the WDR teletext and saw that BE from MAN landed as well as TK from ESB and AB from STN (see screenshot below).
