In April, a member of this discussion forum mentioned that KLM will have a "huge" order of Boeing 777 -200/300's in June, 2001. This member explained that KLM will order these 777's in order to replace their MD-11's, Boeing 767-300's and their 747 classics. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't think everyone can confirm this 777 orders until KLM announced it.

This is just a rumor right now. KLM will announce their order in June. They will probably be ordering the 777-200ER and possibly -300ER. We may even see 764 orders, but right now, these are all just rumors.

As of the 1st May KLM has NO orders for the 777.
The only Boeing aircraft that are still on order are
4 737s and 3 747s

Boeing has 2 777s listed as "Unidentified"

Don't forget, the Paris Air Show is next month, so it's quite possible that this (along with a fairly big EK order) would be Boeing's big announcement. KLM has been mentioned as a 777 possibility for quite a while and with more opportunities opening up to dump the M11s on freight airlines, they may well take the chance. The initial order would be for 777s, but in the long term, the 764 would be quite possible - the commonality between them, in terms of cabin design and crew cross training - would make the type a strong contender.

The initial order may not be that large and don't forget, many airlines will be looking at what Boeing comes up with for the SC. The likes of KL, SQ, EK etc. don't want to place big 777 orders and then find that the aircraft is rendered obsolete within 5-10 years by the SC.

Why does KLM already want to replace the 767-300? How old are they?

The two "unidentified" 777s are going to Egypt Air. We'll have to wait and see to hear something official whether KLM will order 777s. The Paris Air Show would be a likely place to announce an order just like it was mentioned already. The777Man

Need a Boeing 777 Firing Order....Further to fly....LX and LH 777s

Why would'nt KLM consider the new A340(500&600) or the A330.......... why is all the order talk just about B777 and B767 ?

Oh I sure hope they will order the 777.
I cannot wait to see it in the KLM Livery.  Big thumbs up

The reason why KLM is not considering Airbus aircraft is probably because they have a long history with Boeing and it is unlikely they will abandon it that easy.
furthermore allmost the entire KLM fleet are Boeing Aircraft.

I really think they should go for the triple seven.
